Should I?

Question:

Should I run to my doctor everytime a cold sets in?  I feel as if I have a sinus infection.  I have systemic lupus, 30 year old female, and I don’t want to look like a hypochondriac!  You know?  But my throat is very scratchy, I have the pain behind my eyes and the stuffiness in my head.  It seems like I go see him everytime I turn around!  Ha! — God Bless!     :0)

Stephanie, I had a sinus infection last week, and I definitely went to the docs!  I was diagnosed with SLE last summer, so I was unsure about mixing cold meds with my Lupus meds anyway.  Heck… the doc had to check the book to see what I could take for the sinus problem.  :-)  He told me to never take any "over the counter" meds without checking with him first.  Thank God my HMO lets me see my doc whenever I need to. :-) -Paul My reply address is false. You don’t sound like a hypochondriac! Lupus is the funny disease, you never know when your gonna be sick and how long it’s gonna last. I’ve had Lupus for thirteen years and it has been like a roller coaster ride. So hang in there. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Stephanie wrote in message <7avofi$nb…@news.ipa.net>… >Should I run to my doctor everytime a cold sets in?  I feel as if I have a >sinus infection.  I have systemic lupus, 30 year old female, and I don’t >want to look like a hypochondriac!  You know?  But my throat is very >scratchy, I have the pain behind my eyes and the stuffiness in my head.  It >seems like I go see him everytime I turn around!  Ha! >– >God Bless! >    :0)

my docrot told me that sinusitis can be a sign of a flare, and a reaction to lowered immunity, so no, i wouldn’t think it a bad idea to go to the doctor at all for this. if they treat you like a hypochondriac, i would say you need a doctor with a bit more understanding. don’t be hard on yourself for wanting to feel well and for worrying about yourself, that’s what you are supposed to do!

Response:

Stephanie, Go to the doctor every time that you think that you need to.  If your doctor understands Lupus, he will want to see you whenever you are feeling ill.  He would rather see you in his office for a sinus infection than treat you in the hospital after the infection turned into a major flair.  Hope you are feeling better.
