Wish me luck…eye surgeon visit

Question:

Today is the big day….Eye Surgeon appointment. I have severe Amblyopia (lazy eye) and the muscle is so weak that my eye cant stay centered anymore. It makes reading impossible, and if I watch TV or use the computer, I have to close that eye. It is severely damaged, and is basically worthless when it comes to site, so I am probably going to be having surgery to shorten the muscle that allows it to veer off. I get "ghosting" vision when this happens…it’s like double vision, but since I cant see much out of that eye, it’s more of a shadowy ghosting of what I can see. I have heard this this doctor is really great…he is actually a Pediatric Eye Surgeon, as this problem is usually taken care of when one is a child, but the resources and technology weren’t there 20+ years ago. Last night I also broke down and went to get bifocals. My insurance covers them (one pair a year) but at the time of my appointment that I had in February, I didn’t want to get them. Then recently I decided I am tired of switching between glasses as my reading vision is SO much worse. In fact, I CANT read anything without some sort of help. I went to the Optometrist’s and tried on some glasses in the price range that my insurance would cover and found a nice pair. They are small though and I worry that it will be weird with having bifocals, but the woman working there assured me that I would get used to it. I wish I could get another pair of nearsighted glasses, but I have to wait until next year when I can get another pair. I was really stuck between two types of frames. The only thing is that they will be "lined" bifocals…$90 extra for no lined. But, the price came to $132 and I am lucky my insurance will pay that. I figure, I am really only going to be wearing them around the house, so it isn’t a big deal. Maybe when I have some extra money (that will never happen…we cant even get a Christmas Tree, or anything…I feel depressed) I will get another pair of nearsighted glasses as the prescriptions has changed. Well, I need to go shower and get dressed. I am not feeling to bad this morning actually. It’s going to be 70
