Ulnar Drift?

Question:

My mother who also has lupus has alot of TMJ problems.  It’s amazing how long it takes us to get to bed now a days with all this stuff to use at night.  You sound like me-I have to attach a TENs unit to my leg, splints on both hands plus the regular  "getting ready for bed stuff" now after all I’ve read, apparently I’m not the only one sleeping in armor-hahaha. God Bless, Cindy

Response:

YES  —  they do work but, you have to be very patient.   Several years ago I had to wear one one on my right arm and, go into therapy.   But, it worked. I am currently wearing one on my left arm along with a neoprene glove. Have been wearing it since Oct. and, it is finally getting a little better. It definitely beats the other choice of surgery. You din.t say but, is it your elbow or what?

Response:

right hip is rotaing and cause right knee to turn in    in turn making the right foot  go in sideways and causing  major pain and also having T.M.J  is no fun picnic  does any one else with lupus have  T.M.J.? my daughter and i both have it w/o grinding  and / or  clenching at night or during stress… just wondering is all janet

Response:

Has anyone had any experience with splints used to control this? Do they work? Must they be prescribed by a doc?  TIA

Response:

I can’t answer your question.  I did want to suggest though that you consult an orthopedic surgeon.  I’m very well acquainted with wearing splints, so I can say that I’ve never had one that wasn’t prescribed by an orthopedic surgeon.   Sandra

Response:

Bill, I don’t have ulnar drift, but I do wear finger & thumb splints for another connective tissue disease I have.  Mine came from the Silver Ring Splint Co. (www.silverringsplint.com), & they have helped my hands a lot. My internist sent me to a physiatrist (physical med & rehab doc) for the 1st prescription of one to try, & then she felt comfortable enough to write the rest of the prescriptions herself.  The splints are fitted by a hand therapist.  The best of all–my health insurance paid for them! Sue

Response:

i have to wear a splint on my foot because  my foot for some strange reason is turning inward… and i might have to get the inconvenient kind that attachs at the hip and down the leg… i am not liking this one bit  i also have to wear a Herbst appliance for  acute T.M.J.. both have to be especially made hope this helps janet
