heh.. not my artwork – a lawyer friend of mine came up with that one. I’ll have to ask her. :)  I forgot the kitty was on there and a couple of people have mentioned it – thought *they* were losing their marbles – but it’s me. (what’s new). I do like the comical responses – I just don’t like seeing the crude subject lines.  But don’t let that fool anyone, I cuss like a sailor while my daughter and husband never cuss at all.  Must be some sort of cosmic balance thing. kcat *********************************** KCat http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/mypage.htm http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/aslfaq20.htm   ("`-”-/").___..–”"`-._   (`6_ 6  )   `-.  (     ).`-.__.’`)    (_Y_.)’  ._   )  `._ `. “-..-”   _..`–’_..-_/  /–’_.’ ,’ (()),-”  (()),’    (((.-’

It’s generally reckoned to ensure you get *more* spam – by replying you confirm you exist. — Andy For Austrian philately <URL: http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/austamps/> For Lupus <URL: http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/lupus/> For my other interests <URL: http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/>

I do think it is very hard not to reply to spams, trolls, etc.  I know it is.  I guess I object to replying to the ones that have nasty terminology in them but as someone else pointed out, just removing more offensive words is helpful.  I don’t mind so much seeing replies to "Become a Millionaire in 2 days" type posts as much as this particular type of spam that has degrading wording in the subject (although I did change the subject line).  I guess that would be something I would request rather than not responding at all – as I do know just how hard it is not to make fun of these people or their silly-ass posts. >[1] they probably use automatic systems to extract your email address >from your Newsgroup postings – that’s why you can get spam delivered to >your personal mailbox, sometimes with a nonsensical string of characters >before the @.

<nod nod nod>  I post using a different name on a group that is hosted in taiwan.  What I don’t fully understand is why after I started posting there, spam from Taiwan specifically suddenly skyrocketed on *this* email address as well as the other.  They are with the same ISP so perhaps it just picked up on the ISP and sent to everyone on that ISP?  Is that possible?  Anyway… I now x–no-archive on that group and get very little spam from taiwan (but it’s not zero either). There was a "reply here to stop receiving from this address" in one of the emails – I wonder how often that really has any effect as I continued to get spam from that address.  oh well. kcat *********************************** KCat http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/mypage.htm http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/aslfaq20.htm   ("`-”-/").___..–”"`-._   (`6_ 6  )   `-.  (     ).`-.__.’`)    (_Y_.)’  ._   )  `._ `. “-..-”   _..`–’_..-_/  /–’_.’ ,’ (()),-”  (()),’    (((.-’

What is even more frustrating is the e-mails that say to be removed from our list just respond with remove and then the e-mail bounces back as undeliverable because it is a bad address….delete delete delete.  Like how the heck did ya get on the list to begin with???? I don’t even click on the x-rated posts to the group…but I do get a kick out of Andy’s and others responses to the post made by the solicitors of the porn and sicko stuff. You are a very SICK person to post this knd of TRASH on a Group that has so many serious health problems. I will pray for you to get your perspectives in proper order !!! Be a good Samaritan                                   http://community.webtv.net/samaritan64/BernicesWebPage

I would never see these posts if others did not quote them – though I do totally understand the frustration with the posts.   I must thank Newsguy for filtering this stuff (the original posts).  I wonder if others could consider not responding to spam at all as it serves no purpose to do so – I don’t think spammers go back into newsgroups typically and see what they have wrought – they tend to just wait for the suckers to come to them. This post was probably made to hundreds of newsgroups, not just ours.

Sounds like a great idea. If you do respond, please consider changing the ‘Subject’ removing offensive words, just like KCat has done. — Regards. oak6789 Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Yes, it was. I think you are right in saying that the spammers don’t read the groups [1] but I find the occasional reply (for the group to read) is difficult to resist.  What do others think – should I desist?
