The steroid suspensions are prescription. Common ones are Celestone (betamethasone) and Temovate (clobetasol). I have Temovate right now, because it’s the one I could remember by name when I had to see an urgent care doc while my regular doctor was on vaccation. Allantoin is a naturally occurring substance found in comfrey roots and leaves, as well as animal tissues. The stuff I buy is synthesized, so it’s pure. The only manufacturer that I know of is NOW vitamins. I couldn’t find it at the local health food store this time around, so I ordered it online from this place: http://store.yahoo.com/health-world/8115.html 2oz will last a long time, since a _strong_ preparation would be a 1-2 teaspoonfuls in a 16 oz bottle of shampoo. More than that, and you’ll get big handfulls of hair falling out as it all sheds at once. I also occasionally add a tiny bit to my face moisturizer if I’m having acne problems. — Lee M.Thompson-Herbert l…@retro.com KoX 1995, SP4 Head Muso, White Rats Morris Member, Knights of Xenu (1995). The other thing I’ve tried is adding pure allantoin powder to my (unscented, unoffensive) shampoo. The upside is that yes, it helped the sores heal up faster. The downside is that it also accellerates the shedding of tellogen (resting) phase hair. So I lost a couple wads of hair, but the _cause_ of all the scalp irritation has calmed down. The steroid solution is really the only thing that helps when I get the oozing, bloody sores. Allantoin only helps calm down general irritation and speeds up healing of sores. — Lee M.Thompson-Herbert l…@retro.com KoX 1995, SP4 Head Muso, White Rats Morris Member, Knights of Xenu (1995). My scalp is covered in very painful boil like bumps. My doc gave me steriod lotion to put on says it is Lupus related. Any suggestions for other remedies. Thanks Liz

Sorry Liz, but don’t know any other ideas about that one. I too have the same problem but keep it pretty well under control with use of any type hat I can find. The solution is what I also use from a dermatologist. Is it betamethazone solution? That is what I use. hugs janers ( who says those things hurt)_
