Question:

<<Pray that my doctor finally sends me to someone who knows what they are doing!!  I can’t battle this alone.  I am going to ask for the doctor in Modesto again, see if he can work it somehow.>> Best of luck with this.  I hope you’ll let us know how it goes.  In the meantime, I’ll be praying for you. <14019-3ADB98D8-…@storefull-622.iap.bryant.webtv.net>… Alot of great suggestions, thanks everyone!  The hands are still tight- I will try to find an inexpensive parrafin bath, I haven’t been doing anything for the pain other than the vicoden.  The fingernail issue still remains, now with my half-moons disappearing (fully gone on the left hand, and straight bands on the right hand) something is up…I see my doc tomorrow-not like he’ll do anything, but at least I am documented. Today I played chameleon, my skin was blotchy red, then a blotchy purple, like a crazy psychodelic light show–suppose it was the livedo reticularis, but I never had it on my arms before and never accompanied by chills/fever elevation.  By early evening my body is in so much pain, sleeping even hurts.  Its 6  now, and I feel it settling in, so I better get my sons dinner made before I can’t move. Pray that my doctor finally sends me to someone who knows what they are doing!!  I can’t battle this alone.  I am going to ask for the doctor in Modesto again, see if he can work it somehow. Thanks all you wonderful people!!!   *HUGS* Michelle

Response:

Michelle, Will be thinking of you and praying that the doctor sees the light and refers you to a specialist. I think that your being persistent and telling him that all you want is to be helped medically and that since he doesn’t seem to have any answers or a clue as to what the problem is that you think it is time that he refer you to a specialist that can. Good luck. Sherry

<delurk> a while back, either here or on another forum, someone told of finding a crockpot at a garage sale and buying the parafin separately.  of course, you’d have to watch the temp whereas with the specially made parafin baths the temp is probably preset into the machine. they’re available just about everywhere now – even in discount stores and drug stores. whatever you do, don’t buy it from the fancy-schmancy catalogs.  they hike the price up significantly.  heck, even my grocery store was selling the Ab-slide for $29 (10 less than most catalogs and no shipping and handling). haven’t tried them myself but with the current hand pain I’m having it may be a good idea.  I have just been using a heating pad… hi and by everyone – miss you all and wish I could take more time to be part of the group right now but it simply isn’t available to me. So glad to see that Kim was back on – hope she’s still here. <relurk> On 15 Apr 2001 21:07:48 GMT, scroyle…@aol.com (SCroyle909)  wrote: – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -><<Next is my hands in general the joint pain is back and they are closing >up on me again, any unmedicated ways to allieve some of the pain/tightness?  >> >I’ve got a great suggestion for this problem…parafin wax.  I’ve seen >advertisements before for these small tubs in which you melt parafin wax and >dip your hands or elbows.  Wish I could remember exactly what the product is >called and what company makes it.  I’ll bet though that with a little online >research it won’t be too hard to turn up.  If you can’t find anything like >that, let me know and I’ll be happy to search for it. >Sandra

Response:

Those paraffin wax bath things were available at Sam’s Club.  That is where we purchased ours.  Also, the hand pain may be relieved by wearing some of the "wrist braces" on your hands, especially when sleeping.  If this isn’t the right name for them I’m sure someone will straighten me out.  : ^) George – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -SCroyle909 wrote: > <<Next is my hands in general the joint pain is back and they are closing > up on me again, any unmedicated ways to allieve some of the pain/tightness?  >> > I’ve got a great suggestion for this problem…parafin wax.  I’ve seen > advertisements before for these small tubs in which you melt parafin wax and > dip your hands or elbows.  Wish I could remember exactly what the product is > called and what company makes it.  I’ll bet though that with a little online > research it won’t be too hard to turn up.  If you can’t find anything like > that, let me know and I’ll be happy to search for it. > Sandra

Response:

Okay, now this is weird I have sunken in ‘leopard’ or ‘giraffe’ type markings on my leg, they appear to be a few shades darker than my skin tone.  Nothing like the livedo reticularis I have experienced–this is also causing some discomfort (as far as I can tell masked under vicoden).  The leg was not rested on or touching anything to cause the indentions, so I feel safe in assuming its not swelling from water retention anyone know???

Response:

myopathy? has a DR. seen this & how long has this been going on & is it changing, just curious.

Response:

<<The first question is on fingernails, mine have horizontal ridges and now white lines vertically, is this lupus related and will a vitamin supplement get rid of it?>> This could be caused by a mineral deficiency. (usually either iron or zinc) <<Next is my hands in general the joint pain is back and they are closing up on me again, any unmedicated ways to allieve some of the pain/tightness?>> I’m not saying this will work for you but, EPA Fish Oils can sometimes help with this. ***************************************** You did not say what vitamins / minerals you were taking but, DON’T megadose any of these supplements.

Response:

Michelle, the fingernail ridges you mentioned, according to my Rheumy has to do with Thyroid deficiency.  She says that is a quick way of diagnosing a high TSH.  Good luck.  Ginger

Response:

The first question is on fingernails, mine have horizontal ridges and now white lines vertically, is this lupus related and will a vitamin supplement get rid of it?   Next is my hands in general the joint pain is back and they are closing up on me again, any unmedicated ways to allieve some of the pain/tightness?   Since I am still believed to be making all my pain up in my head, I am not treated so any over the counter (which means going to the nearest drug store) remedies will be GREATLY appreciated.
