that’s about normal. some take only 200/day, some take 800/day. I think 400 is the most effective with least risk of impact on the eyes. I was on Effexor for 1.5 years. It worked very well for me. I lost weight on it though – first dose was tough but that was partly my own fault. But for stabilizing a major depressive episode it was excellent. Rather hard to wean from it – I didn’t have any problems but I came off of it over a 2-3 months vs. 2-3 weeks that most docs suggest.
Response:
I’ve been on plaquenil for the last three years (maybe more – I don’t remember anymore). I was started at 400 mg daily…when things were getting worse and they put me on methotrexate and I was still not doing much better they decided to kick it up to 600mg daily. In four months my other doc lowered it back down and said that I was too small to take such a high dose. Three months later I was pulled off of plaquenil because the ophthamologist thought that they saw some damage to my retina. Was off plaquenil for about six months while I had extensive eye tests done (very painful) and the retina specialist said that he didn’t see anything but given my size (and I’m not that small – I’m 5′8" but pretty thin) definitely to never exceed 400mg, and that he would prefer I stay at 200mg daily if I felt that I needed to add the medicine back into my regimen. During the 6 months off my rheumy put me on 50mg of quinacrine because I can’t take steroids and the plaquenil and chloroquine both impact the eyes (though rare). So, now I take both…been on 200mg plaquenil now for about five months. "John Kakouris" <tree…@earthlink.net> wrote in message

I take 200mg of Plaquenil twice a day and also take 75mg Effexor XR twice a day I’ve been taking the Effexor for several years… I definitely feel better with the Effexor than without it (I’m a bad lupus patient… I get fed periodically with all the pills and stop them) HTH Nicole "John Kakouris" <tree…@earthlink.net> wrote in message

Off plaquenil now on Imuran. I have been taking Effexor XR a little over a year. I gained about 10 lbs at 150 mgs and then 20lbs when it was doubled to 150 x’s 2 daily. My sleep is the best its been in years and the depression is well managed. Even with the weight gain, it is definately worth a try. dawn "John Kakouris" <tree…@earthlink.net> wrote in message

I am curious as to what a "normal" dose of plaquenil is. I am taking 400mg/day. Has anyone tried effexor?? I saw my doctor yesterday and told him that my wellbutrin was not working very well anymore. ( I’ve been on it for 4 years and have been on the max dose for the last 2years) Thanks, Rebecca
