Question:

does anyone know about co-enzyme 10? I have painful receding gums and a homeopath I know suggested co enzyme 10. Aso known as Co Q 10. Anyone else know about this?

Response:

I just asked my dr about this. He said in high doses, it’s shown to help with pain…. but the problem, it’s expensive. I give it to my dog who has congestive heart failure. If you take a statin drug for cholesterol, you should take Q10. I’ve read that it may help w/energy.  It’s also an anti oxidant. Q10 is manufactured in your body but many problems can cause levels to be smaller than necessary. I’m going to take 150mg a day.  Just to see how it works.  It’s not too expensive at costco. Hi Bev, it varies, but in the past years, warm has started end of April – Mid May Hot starts in July ends sometime in September, then we have Indian summer, a week of warmish. (usually October), then rainy and dark through Christmas with sometimes snow around Christmas time. Then hot and snowy through to April… This year, warm didn’t start until end of June/July, there was rain/dreary all July/August and hot hit in September, then cold/rainy again….and now some warm 13 degrees days but 0 at night. Idiot next door spoiled the day for us. He burned his yard waste and smoked up the whole neighborhood. Even cat didn’t want to be outside in the thick smoke..oh well, maybe tomorrow will be better Hugs J

Bruce and Bev, are you moving your photos ?

Response:

Pigmet, you said it perfectly "it is just time to move on". I’m just half scared that it is not perfect timing when it comes to living without my little income. That little bit of money covers quite a few things around here! I could draw you, Pigmet, but you never sit still long enough for me to draw you!! I happen to like the pictures Mair draws of you. She captures your smile so well. I’m not sure I could do that! Yes, I do "know" English and I don’t need any English for a degree because I CLEPed my English years ago. But if I’m going to write books I’d better have gooder English. Really, I need to know all the fine points of punctuation, and story layout, etc. And a little improvement in my grammar wouldn’t hurt. Honestly, the things i do make me wonder if I even have a brain. I just finished asking the neuro doc if he could/would make my neurontin "medical necessity" because the generic looks too much like an aspirin. Anyways, he did but with so many dang medications I can understand how you did that. My biggest boo-boo is messing up and taking my evening meds in the morning or afternoon, instead of the afternoon meds. Problem with that is, I take Trazadone because it is a very good sleep aid and it near knocks me out. Oh, and whoopeee!! Hubby won 4 tickets off the radio for the circus! Always, ..

Hi Lyme, Welcome to the group. I’m usually pretty good with only a few minor aches and pains. Seems we vary out here from mild to severely ill. I don’t usually over do it and get in such trouble. It could have been much worse. I live in an old house (150+ years) money pit so it seems there are always too many things to do. No way could we afford to pay someone to do what we are doing!! Materials are bad enough but labour ……..! So it’s a do-it-yourself situation. This is our third time renovating a house so we know what we are doing and have most of the tools. Being married to a guy who loves tools helps!! LOL Also there are only a handful of us who work and why I am still working is a long story. Short version is $$$. LOL I was diagnosed about 5 years ago but the doctor went through my medical history and said that’s lupus, and that’s lupus, etc. Seems I was misdiagnosed as a kid with RA when in fact it was lupus back then. It sure was nice knowing why I am the way I am. Bev "Lyme Lighter" <mooz…@webtv.net> wrote in message

Well, I did over-do it! I also crashed and burned by Wednesday. I went to work and was so tired and so dizzy that I just felt as if I could not keep going. I looked at my boss and asked how badly she needed me. She asked why and I told her I felt horrible and was just too tired to work. So she said "go home". So I did and I slept the afternoon away. I never take afternoon naps only morning naps. Afternoon naps mean I’m sick!! Thursday AM I got everyone out of here and climbed back into bed. Went to work and went to bed early that night. This morning I woke up and felt almost human again! I’m planning to take it easy this weekend. I have some cleaning up to do. I’m going to straighten stuff up but probably not attempt to actually clean anything. Nor will I sand or do any hard work. I have to work 48 hours next week. So I’m going to go into that week as rested as possible! Maybe we will take a nice ride on Sunday. Here’s where the guilt gets me. We only have so many really nice cool weekends to do stuff outside.  Even  much of the inside stuff has to be done outside. I can’t cut tiles or backerboard inside so I have to do them outside. So I feel as if we need to work outside when it is this nice. But I just can’t. I did too much last weekend and it cost me! So everything takes longer than it should. How many years have we been working on our fence? It takes 2 weekends to cut, paint, assemble and put one 8 foot (about 2.5 meters) section up! So I blow a perfectly good weekend because I can’t afford to get that tired!! Grrrrrrrrr!!! Bev "Shelagh" <tidering…@shaw.ca> wrote in message

My hands hurt. It hurts to type, it hurts to hold a cup, etc. It’s my fault, too! I spent most of Sat removing the paint from the porch floor and then today I sanded it. I think I removed 50 years of paint. So my hands are killing me!! But it is painted with primer which I had tinted so I would not have a white porch floor. Tonight I have swollen, itchy (from the swelling), stiff, throbbing, bluish-purple looking things where I used to have palms and fingers. Why can’t I just do things like normal people? Why do I always have to pay so dearly for what I do???  Going to bed, now. Bev

Probably no surprise there.

Gosh Nell, Quite the list there. Let’s see… Plaquenil, Imuran, Prednisone – for Lupus Glucosamine Chondroitin – for joint pain Celexa – for depression Synthroid – for low thyroid spironolact/hctz 25/25 – diuretic? Phenobarbital – (seizures) and as a sedative to relieve anxiety. Well, where I am (Canada), the drugstore gives us a printout for each medication and it has instructions on when to (or not) take it. It can’t have every possible interaction on it. I get those the first time I get a new prescription and save them in a folder, so I can recheck if I have questions later.  They also put red labels on the pill bottle for the ones that make a person drowsy "do not drive" (warnings).  Do any of your bottles have those on them?  I would think maybe the pheno? The bottles also say to take once or twice or 3 times daily but they don’t tell us when to take them (usually), like before or after meals except maybe antibiotics. I don’t think Synthroid would give the runs, unless your thyroid levels were too low. I always take that one before breakfast. (around 6 am, but sometimes I forget and take it a bit later). I don’t know what to suggest unless you have printouts for each medication. If so, you could read through the instructions, side effects (circle diarrhea, if any of them have that) and "drowsiness" if any of those have that listed.  Then you’d know which are the worse for one or the other and maybe split them before a meal and after a meal, so the drowsiness isn’t as severe?  I suppose it depends what instructions your doctor gave you too? Hope you figure it out Hugs J

Amen to that one!! I was on Plaquenil, for a short time. I’m new, and was just diagnosed finally this year.  I have a problem keeping weight ON, so the diarrhea was totally not what I needed.  So my new doc took me off.  I feel better.  I’d rather not be on it.  We all handle these drugs differently I guess, and they work wonderfully for some, and not so great for others. Good to hear that you were able to eat a good meal. Hope it stayed down and the burst blood vessels go away soon. Special hugs to Steph, J

I do know that thyroid medication should be taken by itself with just liquids. No other food or medication should be taken within one hour or you lose the effectiveness of the med. I take mine the minute I get up in the morning.

I get the trots about 2 hours after I’ve taken Plaquenil, synthroid, Celexa, phenobarb, Inmuran, prednisone, Zyrtec, glucosamine chondroitin, and spironolact/hctz 25/25. Also get drowsy. Probably no surprise there. Nell Anyone who says "Easy as taking candy from a baby" has never tried it.

Response:

Hi J, I may be wrong, but I think someone could get the runs if the thyroid levels were too high,. (causing hyper thyroid) rather than too low. (hypo) My gland man has always said it is best to take the Synthroid seperately, and first thing in the morning, as you do. Nell, I think downing all your meds at once is not the best idea. J has a good plan for trying to isolate the culprit. A pharmacy is a good source of info. They seem to know more about drug interactions that a doctor. BJ-Sk. My Rheumatologist and Internist both told me that plaquenil can cause diarrhea.  When it got to the point that I couldn’t leave my house because of that problem, they took me off the plaquenil and then I slowly went back on without problems.  When I added other drugs to the plaquenil I got VERY ill…so much so that my husband, a physician, left his office and took me to my doc. In the end, I figured out what was wrong.  Sometimes we are our own best advocates! Janet R "Stephanie Townsend" <ler…@nospam.hotmail.com> wrote in message

Warning: I am about to complain. I spent last night bowing to the porcelain gods, ill as could be. Threw up so much and so strenuously that I burst multiple blood vessels in my face and eye lids. Gross! This hasn’t happened for awhile and I just recently began Plaquenil again. They took me off it after my stomach couldn’t take it a couple years ago – looks like it still can’t. So, I was up all night feeling quite sorry for myself. Not that self-pity ever helps. Grrrr… I just want to be well for a change. Steph

Hi Steph, I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time with that. I was wondering what dose you’re on. I just found this web page that starts lower (and possibly cuts back to 3 times a week) and wondered if you’d tried that? I think "long half life means it stays in the system longer, hence why they can cut back to 3 times a week. http://www.lupus.org.uk/article.php?i=164 Dose The normal dose of Plaquenil is 1 tablet a day (200mg/day). Some doctors recommend 2 a day (400mg/day) but I find that 1 a day suits most people

I just received notice that I have jury duty.  I’ve been called twice before and was pregnant both times. I still have to take my kids to school and pick them up. I really don’t know if I could sit in a chair all day long.  It would be incredibly painful.  I don’t know what I should do Nicole — 3 of every 10 Americans Know Someone With Lupus Help find the cure.  www.lupus.org

To get out of jury duty varies from place to place. I had to go before a judge and explain my situation. I just couldn’t do it at the time. The judge was very nice and I was called at a later date. Start by calling the court clerks office and find out what the procedures are for your area. You might only need a doctor’s note or you might have to take the note before the judge. My fear is being called into Federal Court because that means driving through rush hour traffic for an hour, parking in a high rise parking lot, walking several blocks, standing in line outside the building waiting to get though all the security measures, etc. I think I’d just panic and they have to cart me away. District court is not as bad but still a hassle. Bev "Nicole H" <crimsonshedemonREM…@hotmail.com> wrote in message

Well, that’s just delaying. She’ll still need to sit (for long periods) later and still have her kids. When you’re "called", don’t the lawyers for each side "question" each potential juror and select the "best" out of those who are called to make the 12 jurors and a few (potential) replacements ?  That’s the way they do it in Canada, a "cattle call" of sorts, then ruling people in (or out). I just cannot imagine having to go through that now. 25 years ago I was called and wanted to participate and could have physically (and would have been paid anyway by my employer), but they didn’t select me ! In my current situ, I’d have to take a portable seat and keep standing up, then sitting down, then standing up and if they asked why, I’d explain that I just cannot sit for long periods on any day at all. I’d have to be sedated and have a cot nearby (to sleep) to do that every day. Or fall asleep and end up in the lap of the person next to me. ;-) J

Response:

Yep, that is pretty much the way it works. Our district court calls maybe 50 people for a 2 month session. That way hopefully they can put together at least 3 juries at any given time.  They ask a million questions and then decide who they don’t want. Every time I have been called for jury duty I have never sat for a trial. One time I did threaten to walk out because I had left early in the AM with only coffee in my tummy and it was pushing 2 PM and we had no break to get food – can’t eat candy from a machine on an empty tummy – I’d go into sugar shock. (Am I a diet controlled diabetic? Maybe.) I was feeling a wee bit rocky from lack of food. I think someone told the judge because finally they gave us 20 minutes to eat. I live right around the corner from the courthouse so I walked home grabbed food and ate it on the way back. When I got back they dismissed us. I spent most of my time in a big room where they cloister the potential juries. I hated every minute of it. I was paid something like $10 a day to appear – if I stayed a certain length of time. Heck it didn’t matter if I spent 2 hours or 6 hours it screwed up my day!! A friend of mine was called to jury duty and the judge smoked so they got lots of breaks to stretch and move around. Another friend is diabetic and he was called and had no problems. They broke exactly every two hours so he could eat. I think it depends on how badly they need you. Mothers with small children get out of jury duty very easily. Old folks get out of jury duty easily. Talk to the judge or the court clerk. What is important is the paperwork you fill out when you are first notified about jury duty. Bev "J" <ne…@example.net> wrote in message
