New Fugazi Album/No Idea zine #10

Question:

In this week’s DC City Paper, two of the guys from the now defunct Circus Lupus gave just that reason for their breakup – that it was too depressing touring Europe & America when nobody knew who they were… additionally, they say that this explains why a lot of the latest Dischord releases are "posthumous"…apparently two of the band members are sticking together to start a new project??

Good riddance.  If they want to be famous rockstarts punk or hardcore isnt the place to do it. Maybe lots of people heard them, and avoided them.  I know I did. The Fiend sucking some shit will neil young

Response:

I agree that its a great album. I listened to an advance copy sent to my friends at MOLE magazine to review.   this sounds mighty "punk rock" – "advance copy", "to review".

My guess is that the fact that Discord is one of MOLE’s "advertisers" had something to do with it.  Almost all the "advertisers/sponsors" in MOLE are independent labels.  Maybe "to review" was my interpret- tation of it, all I know is they sent ‘em a copy. i don’t think 9353 would of played, last time i heard the drummer was goign to calarts; and the guitar player is a major sound guy who works for the Stone/Omni clubs in SF/Oakland (yes, the mega hard rock glam pay to play places. pretty frightenning from what i’ve heard).

Just going by what it said in the Post & City Paper – yes I know those are stupid places to get info from, but I’m stupid so it’s OK.      Terry

before condemning dischord for using "typical" record company tactics, it’s worth knowing that one of the main reasons bands have given for leaving dischord for other labels in the past is the fact that dischord wouldn’t provide college stations and magazines with promo albums.  it’s hard to build a following if no one hears you, and it’s silly to distribute worldwide if no one knows who you are.                                                 IRA p.s.  although maybe it’s also worth noting that not that many bands have left       dischord for other labels.  hmm.         Strange that record stores in Minneapolis get promo copies of all the new dischord stuff except fugazi…         Speaking of promo stuff… I got to hear a way like 4 month advance rough demo for the new Hard-ons lp.  It rocks.  struth. (BTW IRA lets kiss + make up. these fights are too hard on the kids….)         -Colin – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –                                                 IRA p.s.  although maybe it’s also worth noting that not that many bands have left       dischord for other labels.  hmm. The new Fugazi album should be out in about a week.  I just listened to a promo copy of it and the first 2 songs are worth buying the album alone.  The first two songs are intense and then the album drops off a bit and gets mellower and slower.  It’s a bit different from the other Fugazi releases but it’s still incredible music.   P.S.  Anyone who still wants a copy of No Idea #10 (zine) featuring Jawbreaker/Samiam and a Gainesville,FL Comp 7" should send their orders in soon.  It’s almost sold out.  The address is in MRR.

I agree that its a great album. I listened to an advance copy sent to my friends at MOLE magazine to review.  I like it better than Steady Diet of Nothing.  I saw Fugazi in Charlottesville, VA back in April & was sort of disappointed (Jawbox was great though!). I enjoyed the show, but they seemed to lack the same,uh, umph, that they had the previous times I saw them. The name of the new album is "In on the Kill Taker" & has a long distance shot of the Washington Monument on the cover (yellow hazy sky). The "new" 9353 album is also great.  It contains mainly unreleased material & is typical 9353.  It is being distributed thru Discord I think (it came in the same mail package as the new Fugazi album).  I wouldn’t classify it as hardcore, though. They had a CD release "party" coinciding with the rerelease of their 1st 2 albums & the release of the new one a few weeks ago in DC, did anybody out there go?  It was unclear whether 9353 was going to play & I’m not sure if they did since I couldn’t make it.      Terry P.S. MOLE rules!  For info e-mail me or send snail mail to      MOLE. PO Box 5033, Herndon, VA  22070 ($3).  Start digging today!      MOLE #4 had a great interview with Ian on the deeper meaning of      the Mark Trail comic strip & MOLE #5 had a cool interview with F.M.      Einhiet (sp?) of Einsturzende Neubauten.

the 9353 is definitely very cool, more of a repackaging of their old Fountain of Youth and unreleased stuff. I can say sucking shit in my voice that i had advance copies of those tapes for awhile, though i traded with bruce merykel (singer dude) other tapes and money and goods. i don’t think 9353 would of played, last time i heard the drummer was goign to calarts; and the guitar player is a major sound guy who works for the Stone/Omni clubs in SF/Oakland (yes, the mega hard rock glam pay to play places. pretty frightenning from what i’ve heard). lamer, tim

They’re playing at the New Music Seminar this year in NYC, wish I could go!! -Mike
