yes it was but that doesn’t mean building contractors "on the cheap" won’t use it instead of what they’re supposed to use.  Several grade schools in the Houston area were tested for lead paint and some were found to have significant-to-dangerous levels.  Many older houses have lead paint under coats of new, lead-free paint.  painter’s didn’t know to clean things back to bare wood before moving on to new paint.  If there are mutliple layers of paint on a home and those layers start to peel – guess what – the old layers with lead will then be quite exposed.  Happens a lot around here due to our humidity.  I can’t imagine we’re the only ones in the US that have this problem. there is a lead-paint test kit that has become quite popular around here.  Unfortunately, with the floods, any contract work (repainting, rebuilding, carpeting, etc.) puts you at risk of being ripped off. Where possible, make sure you’re dealing with reputable companies. Companies that stop in front of your house because they see a pile of molding carpet are sometimes "vultures" that will pray on people who are desperate to get their homes back to livable.  Saw a friend recently get cheated in this manner.  So everyone be careful when it comes to contract work. >If it is, and you leave the paint alone, it isn’t really a problem. yup – if you *must* have it removed (such as was the case for the local schools) then a professional must do the work.  As I said before, if the paint peels however, and exposes the old paint, you can be at risk and need to have it looked into.  Especially important if you have toddlers or pets (my dog used to eat anything that wasn’t nailed down and some of that too!). *********************************** KCat – I am not a medical professional.  The contents of this post are based soley on my experiences and opinions http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/mypage.htm http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/aslfaq20.htm   ("`-”-/").___..–”"`-._   (`6_ 6  )   `-.  (     ).`-.__.’`)    (_Y_.)’  ._   )  `._ `. “-..-”   _..`–’_..-_/  /–’_.’ ,’ (()),-”  (()),’    (((.-’

One effect of lead poisoning is brain fog :) [snip nasty house] >I feel there lead paint here (found on outside) inside house. getting tested. >if exposed what will this do to my lupus?

Are you *sure* its lead paint – I thought it was banned ages ago. If it is, and you leave the paint alone, it isn’t really a problem. The trouble comes when you try to remove it, or rub it down before repainting: its the dust that causes the trouble. I’d guess it wouldn’t directly make lupus worse – it would, if you were overexposed, make you ill which wouldn’t help lupus – but the same would apply to, say, malaria or a car crash. >anyone ever dealt with this? >sorry so long guess this is why I dont post Im very angry & vent vent…LOL >what a mess. my very 1st house ever. >PS/ me & ex got remarried & Im sooo happy about that, things are great.(other >than the above mentioned & my dog has diareah right now) sigh
