Question:

I see that the water is just getting higher there!  I swear it is feast or famine in all things.  Sure hope that you are okay and that you aren’t having to use a "row boat" for transportation. I am thinking of you as I live in an area that has been known to see that kind of water and it is not any fun!  Have had to bale out a few times when it got into the house…streets flooding from heavy rain…don’t live that close to the river. Hugs, Sherry

we were really blessed on this one.  We did get about 15 inches over the past few days – but Saturday a.m. made all the difference for us versus our neighbours *right* down the road (about 10 miles).  All access into and out of the city is pretty much cut off at some point or another though much of it is starting to drain.  Many of the creeks haven’t crested yet or are going down vvvvvveeeerrrrrry slowly.  at 4:30 a.m. Sat. we were watching radar and the system shifted ever so slightly east – had it not been for that I don’t imagine I’d be on a PC right now).   >I am thinking of you as I live in an area that has been known to see that >kind of water and it is not any fun!  Have had to bale out a few times when >it got into the house…streets flooding from heavy rain…don’t live that >close to the river.

in 94 – (another major flood everyone here hearkens back to on these occasions) we were bailing our atrium as fast as we could… the rain was coming down so heavily the drain from the atrium couldn’t keep up and it was seeping up into the house….  we’ve cleared out a ditch from the exit of that drain (on the outside of the brick veneer) and down through the fence) so this time we were okay – also have to watch for leaves that block the drains.  But we faired pretty well. Day one had some lightning and a tree across the street was taken out by that. Dog and I were home alone – that was a trip. Hubby left work early each day and avoided the mess.  others were not so cautious.  If you’ve seen the pictures you know that many roads were under more than 15 feet of water – dozens of "18 wheelers" completely submerged – the worst being near the Houston Ship Channel area.  what a mess.  9 lives lost at this point (confirmed) – two by electrocution – a couple of folks in one home I thnk.   Praying for all the folk who are still bailing and still waiting for insurance to come in.  Some folks are still be rescued from their homes as the rivers and bayous crest.  Natl. Guard and Coast guard are doing their darndest. was a totally sad picture of a dog (yellow lab?) sitting on top of a house (water *above* the roofline) just waiting for someone or something to change his situation.  He didn’t seem upset though – just patiently waiting.  The news folks thought it was so sad though and it will probably be one of those images shown in recaps over the next weeks. anyway – nap time..  kitties need their rest… :) thanks again. hugs, kcat scary stuff. well, I ate today (yay!) but now I’m sleepy.   thanks for asking about  us. Hope you’r doing okay and anything other folks in the area – Looks like LA is going to get some serious flooding on top of what they’ve already had from this storm as it is moving furthe east. *********************************** KCat – I am not a medical professional.  The contents of this post are based soley on my experiences and opinions http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/mypage.htm http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/aslfaq20.htm   ("`-”-/").___..–”"`-._   (`6_ 6  )   `-.  (     ).`-.__.’`)    (_Y_.)’  ._   )  `._ `. “-..-”   _..`–’_..-_/  /–’_.’ ,’ (()),-”  (()),’    (((.-’

Tropical Storm Allison came inland on us, dumped a bunch of rain, acted like it was going to head east, then backed up on us and dumped twice as much rain. If anyone is interested in a powerpoint slide show (doesn’t take too long to download (2-3 mins) of some of the most bizarre pictures of Houston underwater I’ll send ‘em your way. Won’t post them on the group though and I don’t have a URL for them – just the .pps file. Even looking at it now I am amazed with what I see.  It helps to have seen Houston "dry" to realize just how much devastation you’re looking at. Last nights totals were 25,000 homes destroyed, 600-700 businesses destroyed to say nothing of the parking garages in downtown. Houston has a tunnel system downtown with expensive shops – basically an underground mall – pictures of this are included in one of the slide shows.  Just all around bad news – clean up still going on and sadly – we have had more rain the past two days – not enough to flood, but enough to ruin the furniture and such that everyone had put on their lawns to dry out!  Weather folks said "oh, 20% chance" of rain and to most of us we think that means not likely.  But a strong line came through yesterday a.m.  I slept through it but the rest of my family did not.   don’t fool with Mother nature eh? *********************************** KCat – I am not a medical professional.  The contents of this post are based soley on my experiences and opinions http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/mypage.htm http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/aslfaq20.htm   ("`-”-/").___..–”"`-._   (`6_ 6  )   `-.  (     ).`-.__.’`)    (_Y_.)’  ._   )  `._ `. “-..-”   _..`–’_..-_/  /–’_.’ ,’ (()),-”  (()),’    (((.-’
