Dear Andy~ THE NERVE!!!!! Do u haf the name af the paper this *person* wrote??? Since the Neandrethals were a "people" (I was taught) who hailed fae the country Africa ..well I haf been there & they *only* ginger haired ppl *I* saw were those who hailed fae : Scotland, Ireland & the US. Noo~ I will need 2 dae a weeee bit af research on this one *but* I had been "taught" (& I use the word teaching lightly as it depends on the instructor which *theory* one uses 2 teach) …Scots came fae the ppl in the Norwegians areas ~ which *supposedly* explained haw "wild & scarey" the Hieland Scots were. There tis a tale af when the Romans came 2 "try" 2 conquer Scotland they could hear the "fierce" war crys which soonded like mare ppl than in truth there were. The thought af fighting such a "grand army" meaning they would b ootnumbered ….they turned heal & no landed on shore! I notice the co.uk in ur addy & tis glad I am tha` ONE af us can key in proper like
Altho I am the odd one oot here in Scotland ~ being born wif blonde hair & green eyes …(they used 2 tease me I was the milkmans daughter ~ but he had ginger hair & blue eyes). I am the odd one in the family 2. The rest af the family has black hair ~ blue eyes (wit the exception af ma Da who had the green eyes 2). U would know mast af us here in the UK haf black hair & blue eyes. I will study up on oor heritage (gaen back 2 when Scots *came* 2 Scotland) & work ma way doon 2 England. lol I would NO gif this paper the credance he so richly wishes! No until I see the paper *&* dae the research on this country! (okies England, Scotland *and* Ireland). hmmmmm Ach well I *needed* sumfin 2 keep me occupied lol! Cheers Andy & note I *will* research this one! Love~ Tisha A recent paper from Oxford Uni alleges that the gene for red hair is descended from the Neanderthals. *snort* Since there’s no real evidence for cross-breeding between the neaderthals and homo sapiens sapiens, they’d better have a whole lot of genetic evidence. Or did they actually mean the _region_ of France? In that case, they’d _still_ better have a lot of genetic evidence, because the red hair trait appears in Egypt! — Lee M.Thompson-Herbert KD6WUR l…@retro.com Head Muso, White Rats Morris Member, Knights of Xenu (1995). Twas only ma Mums determination tha` *she* be allowed 2 travel (against Dr`s wishes) while 8 months preggys wif me which gifs me the *dual citizenship* rights. Anyone in *ma* family knows haw much I am Scot 100% (unlike ma brithirs who were born in the states & decided 2 remain there). This tis usually debated on scot ngs but *shrug* its haw one follows their heart & where their hame tis which matters 2 me. As far as *I* am concerned ~ ppl fae diffy countries should b PROUD af their heritage. I mast certainly am af mine!

Hey Andy….(I am also a redhead)….I believe a paragraph was omitted from the article. It stated all hair colors originated from Neanderthals…..redheads were the one to evolve past it. :<) Tracy "if you’re on thin ice you may as well dance…"

Nah. just has always been implied that Neanderthals were ‘beneath’ sapiens in terms of intelligence, aggression, survival abilities, etc. of course, I also heard they were probably nicer.

The story is in The Daily Mail, April 17, 2001 on page 18, but that is all I could get on it. I couldn’t find the actual "page", just the brief on what was written that day. Here is the brief First sentence: Chris Evans’s fiery temper may be a legacy of red-headed Neanderthal man. Hope someone can have better luck than I.
