Question:
Hi, I just heard that if you are diagnosed with Lupus, you cannot get insurance. I have good insurance right now but my RD seems to use Lupus as much as RA when getting aprroval for test. Is there any evidence out there supporting that position? Always, Dawn

Dawn I think what someone must have been referring to is that in some cases, "preexisting conditions" are not covered by new health insurance policies. This means any preexisting condition, not just Lupus. Cogress passed a law a couple of years back that in effect says that if you are covered by a health insurance plan and then move to another job that offers health insurance, you cannot be denied coverage of the preexisting condition. You do however have to have documentation that you were covered and for a specified time period etc., Does that help? Hope so. Dave
