Imuran (azathioprine) therapy

Question:

I have been on Imuran approx 4 mos. with gradually increasing dosages, up to the current 150 mgs daily in 3 doses of 50 mg. each. We are hoping to be able to drop the prednisone therapy that I have been on for most of the past 6 years. I have previously been on NSAIDS, plaquenil, and others. I am tolerating the Imuran well, however the last couple of weeks I have had increasing hand tremors. Has anyone else experienced this side effect while on Imuran. Overall, it is a small complaint, just annoying! Thanks for any info. with your experience with Imuran (azathioprine).

Response:

No I haven’t had that and I have taken Imuran myself for several years now.  I take 100mg once a day, actually 2 –  50mg tablets at the same time.  My antennae go up though cause this may not be a side effect but rather some central nervous system involvement totally unrelated to your medicine.  If it lasts, please go see or at least check in with your medical team for advice.  I knee jerk alot but I don’t take anything for granted anymore. It is worth having it checked by your doc if for no other reason than peace of mind.  That’s my two cents worth.  Judith K&S Harris <eaglf…@telepath.com> wrote in article <CIJa2.6$o44.2…@newshog.newsread.com>… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I have been on Imuran approx 4 mos. with gradually increasing dosages, up to > the current 150 mgs daily in 3 doses of 50 mg. each. > We are hoping to be able to drop the prednisone therapy that I have been on > for most of the past 6 years. Hi there, I was on Imuran over a year ago. I developed tremors & an allergic reaction; I swelled up all over, really bad. I was shaking badly, had severe ‘brain fog’ & felt terrible. It doesn’t sound like you have this problem, but it’s something to be aware of. Doc took me off immediately, then I developed pneumonia 2 weeks later. Good luck, Candis

I have been on Imuran for 24 years now as long as I had my Lupus. I had gotton Lupus at a young age 13 I was on so many medications that at times I would forget. The imuran you are taken could be a side effect shakeness. I experienced shakeness many times but for me it was my salt levels dropping or sugar low. I wish I could give you a answer but as a Lupus survivor there are no two patients alike we all are different and act different to medications that we take                     Take Care                             Terree

Hi My name is Aifr and I have had lupus for a year.  I was first on Plaquinal for 6mos and it did not help me at all I was always in pain and my chest was always hurting I changed doctors and now I am on Arelan and I have not had a flare-up in 31/2 months thank God. Everytime my doctor mentions Prednisone I tell her I will not take it because you are switching seats on the titanic.  I know it is hard but for me that did a lot of damage to other parts of my body.
