It is. All newsgroups go through a rough patch. By design, Usenet is an open forum that allows all sorts of posting to take place. There are "moderated" usenet groups but they are few and far between. It’s very easy for spammers and trolls to make use of Usenet. Therefore if it’s not for you because of this openness then you’re right – you don’t need to be on Usenet at all (much less just ASL which is damn sight calmer than 99% of all other Usenet newsgroups) How long have you been on the ‘net? If not long then I urge you to look back at archives of ASL. You will find that the current "discussion" is not a typical event on this group. There is still a lot of information and support to be gleaned from ASL. Okey dokey – sounds like you like the other type of forum just fine. I’ll be honest, the few times I’ve been there I’ve been turned off by the number of flame wars and little cliques. I thought this would be a support lending forum for people who suffer from lupus by people who either suffer from lupus or understand lupus. I was wrong so farewell and I urge most of you to follow, I can’t believe what I have seen. As I would think most of you feel the same way, I have enough pain and abuse brought on by this horrible thing and I dont need to hunt elsewhere for more. Lupus fills that need just fine, think you. Hi Tina, Baby keisha is soooocute? My little daughter wants one just like it! But she already has her Jasmine (Siamese kitten). How do you use filters? I have Outlook Express and it’s "filters" are called "views" and they don’t pretend to filter porn or spam. Do I have to buy something else? I do have Norton Internet Security, which gives me protection in general, but not in my ng obviously ={ I see the same stuff on the other 3 ngs I visit. And by the way, from what I have seen, I agree, this is the best website for emotional support and information and the least flaming and arguing. Barbara, on outlook IM not sure, do you have a preference section? or a parental cointrol area? I just use AOL & usenet, like when you subscribe & set headers etc.. you can choose to filter. I will open my outlook and see if I can find it. Tina: I would like to use the filters you were talking about. I have AOL. How do I go about using them? If I go into Preferences I see where the filters are but then I don’t know what to do? Thanks, Jill

Jill, you just type in (or cut & paste) phrase words like -porn,sex, earn money,foul words like "f"word (you have to write the f word in ), other words used and add each one to list. its better to just do at start of usenet, in set preferences, then you can use individual group filters for people killfile ) if needed. if that dont help, theres a usenet help section that may explaine better than me. mookeysmom/Tina To see my mookey & baby keisha click links: (newer pics are added to bottom of page) http://community.webshots.com/album/1423111eQdinNWDrt
