Gentle reminder

Question:

While most of us probably play flat rates…some people still pay per minute for their download time.  And newsguy limits my number of download bytes based on my yearly fee. In general, other than groups specifically designed for exchange of binaries and other large files, it is considered poor netiquette to post pictures, mpegs or other such large files on a standard Usenet newsgroup. No biggee.  Just a reminder. KCat the Bossy :-) my second 30 mins are up! (notice how I’m spending most of them here! It’s just an addiction!)

But you can put it on a web site and tell us where it is. — Andy [Editor, Austrian Philatelic Society] For Austrian philately <URL:http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/austamps> For Lupus <URL:http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/lupus> For my other interests <URL:http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk>

since someone was worried I was talking about them in particular I want to stress that posting a file with a fair amount of text that is "inline" (i.e., included in the body of the post) is not typically a problem.  These download quickly and I believe I’ve written more than my fair share of 300 line posts. (my software sees them as "lines" vs. bytes.) The problem comes in large attachments such as pictures or PDF files or whatever is *not* standard ascii text. I am sorry if anyone was offended by this reminder. As the FAQ has been under reconstruction it was on my mind yesterday so I posted about it. Take care, kcat
