Failed IVF-Need Help!

Question:

Shari, I am also unexplained and my first IVF/AH (only 4 fertilized out of 6) last month resulted in a weak positive beta hcg of 25, which then dropped to 24 three days later.  I also believe it has something to do with implantation but I don’t know what.  I had some blood tests done yesterday for possible antibody problems – I’ll find out the results next mon.  I think it was for lupus anticardiolipins & antiphospholipid antibodies.  I am suspecting this because after 3 yrs ttc, 9 failed medicated IUIs, etc. I conceived naturally last Dec. and the same thing happened – a weak positive that dropped.   I’ve never had an endometrial biopsy or hysteroscopy (even though I brought it up after Dec. loss) because RE didn’t seem to think it was conclusive or something to that effect.  A lap in Jan. showed everything is o.k.  I am driving myself crazy with this, but then again I am 39 & also wonder if age & statistics aren’t the factor, although the 4 – 8-10 cell embryos were great and so was lining.  I just don’t know.  I wish I had the answers for you too. Were you on Medrol & antibiotics after retrieval?  This is also suppose to help with implantation.  I have also been taking 81mg of baby aspirin since Nov. – I don’t know if it has anything to do with implantation, but since I conceived after taking it I am not going to stop (RE says it is ok to take if I want). I’m curious as to what antibody is found in the endometrial biopsy that your Dr. mentioned – would you let me know? Take care and I wish you the best, Tammy

Response:

taking the baby aspirin protocok may help. also, don’t give up hope.  my friend was "textbook" perfect.  all the retrieval she had were 25-30 egs, 22-25 fertilized.  dr. and embyologist always said they were the healthiest embryos they ever saw. uterus lining always picture picture. with each procedure (ten) gift/zift/ivf) nothing took.  everyone was baffled. our dr., at monthly fertility meetings he has with all the big-wigs in new york (and he is a head big wig) he went over her case, no reason.  as a second opion she went cycle once with another dr.  same thing.  same comments.  went back to our dr.  did blastocyst, and she is now 10 wks pg!!!! my dr. uses the baby aspirin, antibiotic, progesterone, etc. protocol as standard. the point is, the embie stuck went they felt like it. so don’t give up hope.  ask yr dr. about the baby aspirin. good luck.

Response:

Hi Shari, a biopsy will test the uterine lining and highly recommend you have it done before you go any further.  I had one done and found I had inflamation and that why mind didn’t stick.  I am currently in my 2 week wait so I cannot tell you how things went yet, but I remain positive.  Good luck.

I need help!  My dh and I are both 32 years old and 2 years unexplained IF. We found out today that our first IVF cycle, which the RE described as "picture perfect," has failed.  I was a better than average responder, producing 30 eggs of which 22 fertilized.  We did a Day 6 transfer of 1 hatching blast and 2 extremely advanced blasts that doc said were "about to start hatching in the dish."  We also froze 2 additional blasts that were of the same high quality.  My progesterone levels are always right where they should be, and I took 100 mg suppositories twice a day as well as 2 cc’s of progesterone in oil.  There is something obviously going on in my uterus, however, that is preventing implantation. I had an HSG about a year ago that came back absolutely clear, and I have never had even the slightest endo symptom, so doc has not suggested a lap. Today, however, she suggested an endometrial biopsy to find out if there is an antibody (I can’t remember its name) in my uterus that is rejecting the embryos. Has anybody else heard of this antibody?  Anybody out there failing with IVF under similar circumstances?  Any ideas for what we should try next?  I just don’t want to transfer our beautiful frozen embryos into a uterus that can’t support them.  Thanks for your help. Shari
