Question:
I guess I can’t make comments about *other* portions of equine anatomy here as it’s a family newsgroup. However, I’ve had a horse I was showing embarrass me by deciding to let go just as the judge was leaning down to examine a hoof. Horses make *huge* puddles! "BJ" <B…@sk.nojunk.ca> wrote in message

Hi Wes, Thanks for taking the trouble to type this all and explain. 4 kidneys, that’s so strange to me that they’d leave non-working ones in, but perhaps there’s a good reason? Shorter surgical time? The first two have probably atrophied, right? But still sounds mighty crowded inside you. anyhow, we’ll cross our fingers that after the 30 days (and later), the kidney will "hold" and you’ll soon be back to a more normalized life and feeling much better again. You ‘ve been through such a hard time, I feel really bad for you and the family, so here’s hoping this is a new beginning for you. Response:
Hi J, Well, here’s the technical stuff. I was a two-out-of-six match, but my coordinator told me to take it. They can do wonderful things now with a zero- out-of-six match. This kidney was placed on my left side, and they left the other one in. So technically, I’m carrying four kidneys around now, with only one working. I was given two grams of solumedrol and a gram of Orthoclone OKT3 prior to transplant. This wiped out all of my T cells, making it very difficult for me to reject for at least a month. This treatment is new, and should allow for much less immunosuppression in the future. The current list of meds follows: Nystatin 5cc 4 times a day to prevent thrush. Bactrim Single Strength once a day to prevent pneumonia. Baby Aspirin once a day as a blood thinner. Colace 200 mg twice a day as a stool softener. Valcyte 450 mg once daily as an anti-viral. FK506 8 mg twice a day for immunosuppression. Prednisone 10 mg once a day for adrenal insufficiency. Niferex 150 mg twice a day for iron supplementation. Sodium Bicarbonate 3 times a day for electrolyte balance. Magnesium Oxide 400 mg twice a day. Percocet two tablets every 6 hours as needed for pain. Tenormin, Proscar, Prilosec, Allegra, Allopurinol and Levoxyl continued as before. No more Cyclosporine. Unfortunately, rejection can occur at any time. Thanks JR, She must have gotten an update between her e-mail to me and the one to you. So now we don’t have to worry, when he doesn’t show up on the newsgroup until after Saturday and I expect he’ll have adjustments at home too, so we’ll just have to keep worrying till we see his post.

Glad Greetings Friends and loved ones, Thank you thanks you thank you too all of you who beseeched the Lord on Wes’ behalf,he received a new kidney on Palm Sunday. He got the call at 9:00 p.m. Sat while he and the kids were waiting for me to pick up some milk, bread and cigarettes(joke). It was match of out of six,did he want it( his Doc said take it) so he did. It is working just fine, the out put is good and his creatine is coming down rapidly. There will be a lot of med fine-tuning but we expect him home in 4-5 days. He is in good spirits and sound stronger each time I call. The kids and I are ok, we are very happy. God is amazing and has sent the most awesome Angels to help us( the Bailey family,Natlie,TheRoddens, Jeff) There are not enough ways to thank them for being there. Well , I must go, if you sent anything recently after 4-11), I lost them with a click of a mouse, sorry. I"ll have to wait to find them. This is two days later, Wes is having some hefty surgical pain today, But was up in a chair, got washed, ate solid food, took a hall walk. He kidney is doing well,he willl mast likley be homr on saturday. I’m too ttired to do this right now. I’ll send more later.
