I occasionally get a similar effect (not on OE, which I don’t even have installed). And I’ve seen it on other machines. One possibility is that your monitor is starting to show signs of age – eg the power supply is unhappy, the tube is tired – and certain programs make it work harder (because of what they are displaying) and push it further than it wants to go. — Andy [Editor, Austrian Philatelic Society] For Austrian philately <URL:http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/austamps> For Lupus <URL:http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/lupus> For my other interests <URL:http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk>

And I thank you too LOL Seriously though, I had a computer friend come over, who does keep my computer running. She checked everything and it was fine, but she checked my files and found I had a few that might be corrrupt and mess with OE. so she downloaded a program for SPY ware. Bingo. I had 187 corrupt files and they might make it slow and goof up OE. so now we will see. Let you know more when I do.. thanks everyone for your help. janers

I’d suspect that monitor problems would turn all the text not just part. > AND – it could be just a corrupt file in your display driver. Hmmm, you may have hit on it. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> From there it could be the video card having problems. Hi gang, funny thing happened this am. All my outlook express titles are enhanced with a purple color. If you look at the word send, it has two lines through it and it is purple in color. all the rest of the word is the same with that. The group, subject, inbox. This never was before. I got me an update or upgrade to my Norton Security for the year a couple days ago. ran scans big time. every thing is fine, Now this morning this has happened. Never seen it before ever on computer. Internet explorer is working well, and no color on the upper case words there. JUST OE. Is this normal for some of you, or can or did I switch something and not know it? hugs janers, who is confused enough.

Can you explain more fully – is the colour change in the email its self? > This never was before. Have you been messing around in the "Display" window?

Do you have Norton "on" at all times. Is this an big upgrade? IOW – had it been some years since upgrading or had you been keeping up with new versions. I ask because Norton typically is a Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) program and therefore takes some of your RAM up whenever your system is on. This is necessary to protect you at all times from possible incoming viruses and such. But if you have an older system with not much RAM then the new version could have chewed up some of your RAM. How much RAM do you have on the system? It’s also possible that the monitor itself is on the blink. I’ve seen this happen before. Does the monitor have good air ciruclation around it? How old is it? AND – it could be just a corrupt file in your display driver. If you have the original s/w for the display driver you might try loading it. Or you could run a disk diagnostic (ScanDisk – look under Accessories/System Tools in your STart menu) and see if it finds any corrupted files. Then reload the display driver if something is found. Go to your display settings first and write down the settings (16-bit color or 24-bit color, 800×600 or whatever resolution you’re using) because sometimes we decide to try higher resolutions when our video cards can’t handle them. From there it could be the video card having problems. Had any electrical storms lately? You may want to restart in SAFE mode (eeks – can’t remember how though it’s sipmle) when you first reload the display driver. I would guess the RAM more than the other possibilities. Simply because it’s happening only in OE which may be using more of your system resources in conjunction with Norton. or I could be wrong on all counts.
