I don’t put sunscreen behind my ears. I wear a wide-brimmed hat when I expect to be out in the sun – also keeps the top of my head protected. (Don’t know about you, but I don’t put sunscreen on the top of my head). Might also want to consider something like those Super Seals (never tried them, but thinking of getting some). Woods

Not so, unfortunately. Certain oils can embrittle plastics. Many years ago at ROLM/Siemens we had a problem with some of our high-end telephones coming back with cracked cases. These phones were designed to be strong enough that they could be tossed across the room without breaking. The problem was traced to a change in the hand-softening lotion we supplied the the folks in final assembly. It was embrittling the plastic over a period of 6 months or so. My BTEs are Phonaks, but they’ve never broken, and I slather my face with a minimum of 30 SPF sunblock (not sunscreen) every single morning, because light triggers lupus flares for me. Do you put sunscreen on your ears? If not, I’d like to have your dispenser’s answer to why your HAs break and mine don’t. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Roland.Han…@asu.edu (Roland) wrote in message <news:295b186e.0206210535.70b2c067@posting.google.com>… > I have had a lot of trouble over the last several years with my WIDEX > Senso BTE aids breaking. Well, sunscreen, and a hammer will do this every time ; )… How gentle are You with the HA’s ? I personally would try to keep all oils, moisture, makeup, medicene, and dirt/dust away from My aids…, but thats just me. This is sometimes impossible (like being caught out in a rain storm), or sweating. Everything You put on Your skin, or comes out of Your skin, has the possible threat of damaging electronic curcuits/parts, because most moisture (unless frozen) is conductive one way or the other. As far as damage to the plastic, UV will make plastic brittle, and oil would tend to soften- I would think…. "Roland" <Roland.Han…@asu.edu> wrote in message

I have had a lot of trouble over the last several years with my WIDEX Senso BTE aids breaking. They have broken maybe five or six times! They always break near the top of the plastic case where the small screws attach the case and clamp it to the clear plastic horn. WIDEX advises me that this is due to the fact that I use sunscreen. The company has been quite generous in extending the warrenty although I have had to pay $400 extra for this problem. I use sunscreen quite sparingly. Does anyone else have this problem as much as I do? Have any other companies solved this problem for BTE aids?
