I’ve been off pred (after 10 years) for about a year & a half. But besides the pred I’m on blood thinners & will be the rest of my life. Even today with out pred there isn’t a place on my body that isn’t bruised. Hubby says someone breaths on me & I bruise. As far as I know there isn’t anything that can be done & I just tell butinski’s that it’s because of some meds that I take. Anyone ever get asked when going into the hospital if you have any bruises? My hubby just laughs & says "if you can find a spot that isn’t, show it to me". By the way I’m on the lowest dose of thinners (12.5mg) now & "normal" people take 3-4mg. barbe "Mary Speiser" <maryspe…@yahoo.com> wrote in message

I am not on pred but I bruise very easily. For me I it comes and goes and I know it’s a matter of being low on platelets. (been documented). on pred the skin is thinner, the vessels a bit more delicate, etc. I know that DHEA helps with the muscle wasting caused by pred, I don’t know if it would help in this matter? I bruise every now and then, but when my Prenisone is increased the brusing increases. Usually I am on only 2mg of Pred and I bruise "normally" on the dose, but I am on 15mg now, because I am flaring and I have been getting a few small bruises. When I was on higher doses, like 40mg a day, I would get a bruise even if someone playfully grabbed or tapped me. I wear pants all the time, which helped when I was in high school, because otherwise people may have thought I was being beaten. Some of the bruises were very large and very dark. I know the Lupus itself can cause some to bruise easily, though I only notice abnormal bruising when on high doses of Pred. Some of my worse ones have even left "scars" that just look like very light colored bruises that are hardly noticable. I take Vit. E everyday and I also use Vit. E creams on the bad ones, which helps them clear up faster and prevent them from scarring. I hope this information it of some help. God Bless! Peanut :-)

Is any one bothered with heavy bruising? I just have my hands and arms covered with big ugly ones.It is very embarrasing as even strangers remark about them. It is caused from 12 years of prednisone. Not much a person can do about it . The more active I am the worse they are.

I have bruising once in awhile too. I understand it happens when my platelet count drops. Then I get these black and blue marks on my legs. They seem to come and go.
