Each breed is judged by a standard that lists as guidelines what the ideal specimen of that breed should look like (and act like). The more the dog conforms to the breed standard, the better a specimen he is. Thats why it is so important to read the breed standard when you are considering purchasing a purebred dog; you can aquaint yourself with the major physical characteristics and the basic temperment of the breed.  The breed standard is set by the breed club.  Hope this helps :) Dogstar716 Come see Gunnars Life: http://www.angelfire.com/ut/Gunnar "Any normal trainer in my position would have left by now, but I’m not a normal person". – Jerry Howe

A listing of (desired) physical and/or behavioral attributes that  (in this case) defines the "ideal" of a sub-species of Canis Lupus with regards to the domestic dog. Clear as mud? Did you have any specific breed in mind?

Response:

It is the ideal confirmation, color, size and temperment of any certain breed. www.miraclemethods.com
