Better by the day!

Question:

Wes I am so happy for you and your family! Things just couldn’t be any better at this stage! And here in BC I am registered as a donor for any thing they want from me! I really hope my ‘parts’ will help someone as much as you have been! Wishing you continued good health and good luck on the road to recovery; I know it can seem long and bumpy but you will get there with the help and love of your family; and of course the support of us at the asl newsgroup!!  :) — Hugs from Shelagh http://continue.to/lupus – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -"Wesley" <johnjohnston2…@msn.com> wrote in message > Hi! > I went to outpatient clinic on Monday, and was released to regular > bi-weekly transplant clinic.  The surgeon said that I set a record > time for date of surgery to release to clinic…9 days! > Everything is going well.  I just need to get some of this fluid off > now.  There is 30 pounds of it, and it is very uncomfortable. > This is organ donation awareness week.  Just thought I would mention > it.  No pressure, honest.  Truly a decision for each to make on > his/her own.

I’ve too been registered as a donor for years.  I hope they take every part possible! "Shelagh" <tidering…@shaw.ca> wrote in message

Sharon, I think the pink sticker is California’s way of marking our DL’s so at an accident scene etc it is known that you are a donor. From what I have heard even if you have signed a donor card you have to make sure that your family knows that is what you want!  I think they can still "veto" the donation…I am not sure that is right! Don’t know about "donors" being given priority over non donors.  Guess if that were so more people would think about being one.

Oh, Ok. I thought it might be a state thing.  My hubby knows I want to donate whatever I can, but not sure if my folks would fight him on it. I don’t know if one can be buried in the blessed land of a Jewish graveyard if one donates their organs.  I know my grandma was talking about even tatoos causing problems with that.  Not that I care, but my folks do.  Hopefully they’ll never have to deal with this issue though! > Don’t know about "donors" being given priority over non donors.  Guess if > that were so more people would think about being one.

Wish I remember where I saw this.  I think it was on a poster somewhere, and it had a website too, but I just don’t remember anything more about this.  Thought it was a great idea though.  Many more people would probably make sure they’re donors. -Sharon — Visit my webpage: http://www.qc.edu/~sperlof1/ ~Peace~ We must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal we seek, but it is a means by which we arrive at that goal… We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means.                               -Martin Luther King Jr.

Unless they are ultra orthodox, it is no longer an issue. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> > Don’t know about "donors" being given priority over non donors.  Guess if > > that were so more people would think about being one. > Wish I remember where I saw this.  I think it was on a poster somewhere, > and it had a website too, but I just don’t remember anything more about > this.  Thought it was a great idea though.  Many more people would > probably make sure they’re donors. > -Sharon > — > Visit my webpage: > http://www.qc.edu/~sperlof1/ > ~Peace~ > We must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal we seek, > but it is a means by which we arrive at that goal… > We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means. >                               -Martin Luther King Jr.

You’re doing a mitzvah – it’s allowed.

Response:

Wes, So happy that things are going so well and quickly! I carry a donor card and a pink sticker on my drivers license….as do my husband and my son!  Hopefully someday I will be able to give the gift of life to someone else! We know that you would not pressure anyone to make that choice!  I hope that one day the amount of "donors" is larger than the need for organs! I’ve been registered as a donor for several years and what I know of your story makes me feel so good about that decision. I’ve even thought of leaving my whole body to science as there’s some wierd stuff with my lupus and APLS and all that. We’re all so glad that everything went so well for you Wes. I just cried when I saw that little message of yours that they were ready for you with a new kidney. I’m rather new to the group in the past few months and they’ve all made me fel so welcome and I thought that I had heard something about your needing a kidney but wasn’t sure what it was all about. You sure had a lot of folks praying for you which probably is why it went so well. I still remember you in my prayers. Best of luck to you and your family. Made my year! Ah, the Great Pisser has 30 pounds to piss away!! All joking aside I’m so thrilled you are home with your new kidney and doing well. I was really getting very worried about you. Give the kids and Kip a big extra special hug and kiss from me and keep one of each (a hug and kiss, you’ve already got Kip and the kids -LOL) for yourself!!! Grammar, grammar, grammar – oh well! <snip> Where does one get this pink sticker?  I signed my DL so they can take whatever parts they can, but I don’t have a pink sticker.  Does it guarantee them taking necessary parts despite what family has to say about it? I read somewhere, don’t remember where, about a program where if you’re on the list as a donor, than you are given organs first over non-donors if you ever are in need.  Wish I remember where I saw this.  Thought it was a great idea.

Hi! I went to outpatient clinic on Monday, and was released to regular bi-weekly transplant clinic.  The surgeon said that I set a record time for date of surgery to release to clinic…9 days! Everything is going well.  I just need to get some of this fluid off now.  There is 30 pounds of it, and it is very uncomfortable. This is organ donation awareness week.  Just thought I would mention it.  No pressure, honest.  Truly a decision for each to make on his/her own.
