Arava or Embrel or Imuran

Question:

Any one on any one of these drugs for lupus.  Doc talked about the MTX and these.  I know about them just would like to hear from someone on them…. Janers

Response:

I’ve been on imuran for a little over 11 years now. Really have not had any problems with the drug unless I forget to take it with food. This is a must!! I take 150mg (3 pills) with dinner so by the time I go to sleep it’s just getting to the stomach. I have friends that take it in divided doses. 1 pill with each meal. Some take more than 3 & take 1 with each meal & 2 or 3 at dinner or with a small snack before bed. Hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me any time. barbe "Janers" <rojak…@bright.net> wrote in message

I’m on Imuran, Janers.  Haven’t had any side-effects that have bothered me (except the possibility that down the line I might get cancer.) Barbara Janers <rojak…@bright.net> wrote in message

Hi Janers and everyone else.  Coming out of lurkdom here where I’ve been following everyone’s story for quite some time.   To introduce myself, I’m a 46-year-old female with SLE, RA, FMS/MPS, and several other problems.  I am on prednisone, MTX and Arava for the SLE/RA.  For a while I was taking just the MTX & pred, but the joints were SOOO bad the RD put me on Arava about 2 1/2 months ago.  Janers, the Arava really helped my joints immensely.  Had some nasty side-effects but can deal with that okay. The doctor wanted to cut the Arava to lessen the side-effects and I wouldn’t let her do it!!  She just put me on Neurontin to try and deal with the FMS pain.  Vicodin helps with the joint pain but not the FMS.   Hope this helps!  Just want to say to all what a terrific group this is.  I’m also on the  RA group and FMS group (lurking there as well) and this is, IMO, the most supportive and without the flame wars that go on. Betty

Response:

Janers~~I was on Imuran, the dose was decided by my body mass/weight. Unfortunately my reflux and peptic ulcer just could not handle it.  So they put me on purinethol-6, which is an older derivative, and is absorbed more through the liver, so less on the gi tract, but that caused the same problems.  Then, to Mtx by mouth, then injection.  Really didn’t have time to see an improvement, ’cause my complements were already too far down.  The injection are sub-Q weekly.  I didn’t get mouth sores.  I did have more hair loss.  It took a long (months) time to get my gi tract calmed down, and I lost weight.  Not a good thing for me. They kept me on oral prednisone while I was on the mtx. I’m hoping someday that I’ll get off the Cytoxan chemo (future hopes here) and be able to try something again. Good luck on your decision for therapy.  Take care—Kim p.s.–Mom and dad say Hi.  Kim * Sent from AltaVista http://www.altavista.com Where you can also find related Web Pages, Images, Audios, Videos, News, and Shopping.  Smart is Beautiful
