I had become diabetic within three days of taking steroids. I was taking 50mg per day, though. By the fifth day, I was drinking 3 gallons of water a day, could barely seee, and was peeing like a racehorse!

In my book which is rather old it states under the Precautions for Pred "diabetes: Diabetics may require  increased doses of insulin or oral diabetes medications." Hugs, Sherry "J" <BroadMajes…@example.com> wrote in message

Stinky too I think she said.  She’s attributing that to the diabetes.  So maybe his "events" are due to dehydration (in part)? > > He’s also now being treated for GERD and he’s been running around to various > > tests to rule out heart problems too. > > Guess he’d had the diabetes for some time w/o realizing it. :( > That’s pretty standard after being dx’d with diabetes; I was given > numerous heart tests as well.

Yes, well he had an "event".  they think it was just GERD, but they’re being cautious and checking it out thoroughly but he’s feeling much better since being on Prevacid. I think I saw a warning about diabetes (here or www.rxlist.com) on Prednisone. I gotta get busy with the "up periscope" thing/prep so can’t stop to check that now. Thanks REP, I’m not snipping, want to save this for when she calls me so I can find it in my "sent" e-mails to explain to her. J

Well, I’ve only been on it for five days or so, and the frequent urination started within maybe one or two days of taking it.  Is it possible to have a sugar jump that fast?  Will mention it to my RD on the 28. -Sharon — ~Joy~ If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if the simple things of nature have a messsage that you understand, rejoice, because your soul is alive.                                       -Eleonora Duse

Hi REP, is that where "spilling sugars in the urine" expression comes from? My friend’s b’friend was dx’d with Diabetes about a year ago, he’d lost far too much weight before the dx, to be explainable by diet and exercise.  He’s been on insulin (don’t know details) but his frequent urination has stopped. (he’s not on Pred) She did mention however that he’s got the D’s and always has had them (the runs). Is that usual for a diabetic? He’s also now being treated for GERD and he’s been running around to various tests to rule out heart problems too. Guess he’d had the diabetes for some time w/o realizing it. :( Hugs J

oops forgot, it’s (diabetes) also mentioned under fatique http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003088.htm I posted that a few days ago to the fibro newsgroup. I guess most people (on the other NG) don’t read (or at least scan) the urls I post. do you have one good link for diabetes?  There’s a whole bunch in Medline (subdivided subjects) http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/encyclopedia_D-Di.htm Thanks, J

No. When a diabetic reaches a certain blood glucose level (around 240), suagr "spills" into the urine. Most diabetics without sugar in their urine still urinate frequently. > My friend’s b’friend was dx’d with Diabetes about a year ago, he’d lost far > too much weight before the dx, to be explainable by diet and exercise.  He’s > been on insulin (don’t know details) but his frequent urination has stopped. > (he’s not on Pred) > She did mention however that he’s got the D’s and always has had them (the > runs). > Is that usual for a diabetic?

No. Chronic diarrhea is not associated with diabetes. Since he has diarrhea and losing fluid that way, that explains why he is not urinating as often. > He’s also now being treated for GERD and he’s been running around to various > tests to rule out heart problems too. > Guess he’d had the diabetes for some time w/o realizing it. :(

That’s pretty standard after being dx’d with diabetes; I was given numerous heart tests as well.

I just use the Merck manual. Diabetes runs in my family, so I just always knew the warning signs.
