alt.support.lupus through a url…HOW?

Question:

Can someone out there give me the instructions to give to another friend who has lupus (a newbie) to tell her how to sign up with this newsgroup without outlook express? I am not sure of the url online or how to post online. Thanks for your help and TIA too. — from Shelagh Co-ordinator Of Valley-Lupus – Invisible in Plain Sight http://www3.telus.net/valleylupus/index.html Subgroup of BC Lupus Society and Lupus Canada Email: valleylu…@telus.net

Response:

http://www.hamline.edu/lupus/ Hamline provides access to Lupus Usenet group alt.support.lupus. (Click on USENET in left-hand frame) That works for newsreader Netscape and Outlook Express. (but her isp’s newsserver location has to be defined in the newsreader first). Has she got her own computer? If so, what e-mail/newsreader program is she using? If not, she might have to post through Google but I don’t know how?? http://www.google.ca/ Click on "groups" OR http://groups.google.com/googlegroups/help.html AOL?? http://www.corp.aol.com/ms_main.html http://www.harley.com/usenet/whatis-usenet.html (Random find which kind of summarizes) Webtv, Pegasus and some of the others, I don’t know. Great !  Now if someone could help me figure it out <g> I can’t find where one registers. > and sent her the url and she is now going to start posting > under the name cinderella I think.. so lets keep our eye out for her and > make her welcome?

Sure will.  Tell her to dive on in and post. I imagine all the posts that get downloaded can be overwhelming to a new person esp if they don’t understand the flavour of (any particular) group. She can always use Google Group search later, if she wants to get caught up on posts and/or search on a particular subject/keyword. http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search J

TY so much for your help on this and I have forwarded the search url to her. http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&num=25&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=alt. support.lupus&start=50 BTW this is the address I gave her to see the threads and post… i think it is right? — from Shelagh Co-ordinator Of Valley-Lupus – Invisible in Plain Sight http://www3.telus.net/valleylupus/index.html Subgroup of BC Lupus Society and Lupus Canada Email: valleylu…@telus.net "J" <jwoot…@execulink.com> wrote in message

At the top, there’s an option "Post a new message to alt.support.lupus" OR click on a thread, then reply. If she’s not registered, Google will walk her through the registration process. I suppose it’s a way to post anonymously (and use one of those freebie e-mail accounts). I’m currently set up to do so, but haven’t yet. Either way, once she gets here, perhaps we can help her post through another newsserver if that’s easier for her. J-wondering if your friend has gotten lost and not found how to post (or just trying to read all the posts from the beginning of time :( – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Shelagh wrote: > TY so much for your help on this and I have forwarded the search url to > her. > http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&num=25&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=alt. > support.lupus&start=50 > BTW this is the address I gave her to see the threads and post… i > think it is right?

</snip> I would imagine she has gotten lost!! How dumb was that! I didn’t even check the dates… just looked through the names posting and topics and took it from there… duh! I have forwarded your post to her to get her on the right track and thanks so much for checking up on me!!
