Dear Michsele[sp]—I could be wrong on this so take it as it is. I think I was given Biaxtrin[sp] for an infection a long time ago–given it different times over three years. Then one time I was prescribed it and not 24 hrs later was covered with hives from head to toes. Went to my primay and was asked what meds I had beeen taking when I named off that one he told me never to take it again. I was now allergic to SULPHER–if this is the same med you mentioned -alot of Lupujs p;eop;le all of a sudden become allergic to sulpher. If I am wrong about this being the same med. then I am sorry. I just remember what and awful time I had for 3 or 4 days and taking beedryl before it cleared up. I know not everybody has that re-action–but I thought I should mention it just in case. I hope any-way you are on the mends now and do not have to suffer with tis anymore–By the way–Mouth soreness can be a Candida[sp] infection azlso ulcers from Lupus and Pred. and something called Thrush. Take Care–this is from my own experiences–Lar

Hi Michelle: Bruce here ,  may be a slight infection , caused by eating  , like sharp potatoe chip bit in gum can infect. Me realy thinks it`s from all your studying of late , your just getting more wisdom plus teeth. hahahahah! ( hugs ) Michelle wrote in message

<15746-3A219A39…@storefull-621.iap.bryant.webtv.net>… I had planned on going to urgent care this morning, but the symptoms have surpassed, but I apparently have disturbed the healing process when I ate lunch this afternoon, there seems to be a large lump back where my wisdom teeth should be (had removed 13 years ago).  Seems I may be in for a trip to urgent care anyhow now that the pain has resurfaced.  I just hate seeing doctors, thats all it is, afraid to hear "its all in your head" one more time, or to get perscribed MORE vicoden or codine, ignoring the cause.  Toncilitis is ruled out, thas a good thing.

I’m so relieved to hear that you did go to the doctor.  An infection isn’t something that should be left untreated.  Hope you’re feeling better soon. Sandra

Thanks everyone, I missed the obvious DX for us lupies…..lymph node infection, the doc said it is very common in ppl with lupus.  I explained to her I had the flu 2 1/2 weeks ago and finished the Biaxin last night, she asked the mg of the Biaxin–it was 250, she said that was not enough for someone with lupus and it opened the door for me to get an infection in my lymph nodes, now I am rx’d for cipro 500mg…..hope it goes away!! Wish me luck…. Michelle

I can’t really help any, but I have had the same thing for a couple of weeks. Mine seems to come and go.  My throat is really red too. Susan

Response:

If you have your tonsils, and most people these days do, then I suppose tonsilitis could be a possibility.  If so though, it needs treatment with an antibiotic.  Since this has been hanging on so long, it’s probably a good idea to have a doctor look at it. There are other things that can cause a sore throat as well (for example, strep throat, viral infection).  Something though that’s been hanging on for three weeks and is still there needs to be looked at by a physician.   Sandra

isn’t candida usually a white-ish coating on the mouth/throat?  I don’t know that I’ve ever had thrush that hurt but perhaps it can.. *********************************** KCat – I am not a medical professional.  The contents of this post are based soley on my experiences and opinions http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/mypage.htm http://www.ghg.net/schwerpt/aslfaq20.htm   ("`-”-/").___..–”"`-._   (`6_ 6  )   `-.  (     ).`-.__.’`)    (_Y_.)’  ._   )  `._ `. “-..-”   _..`–’_..-_/  /–’_.’ ,’ (()),-”  (()),’    (((.-’

I’d recommend you get into the doc – could be an infection. Laryngitis (losing voice due to inflammation of the vocal cords) though is not uncommon as a symptom of lupus and I often have a few days at a time with a dry, sore throat and not able to talk comfortably.  But you need to rule out bacterial infections such as strep as they can take over if you don’t treat them. best wishes, *********************************** KCat – I am not a medical professional.

Michelle,  not to butt in here.  But LOL   you need to get your to the ER!!! That swelling is nothing to mess with…If your tongue is swollen and painful…the swelling can and will go down the throat which is causing the painf when you swallow…ok, now if that is effected then your air way, trachea, can and will also swell up and cause you difficulty in breathing and you may not know it and go to bed and bingo have real bad trouble… It really should be checked today….Call your doc and get his or her hotline number or answering machine and get some one to help you here…You need something to counter act that swelling…this is not something to mess with… Please….
