['that' was antiphospholipid syndrome] see http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/lupus/faqshets/faqs18.htm which says   Hughes’ syndrome (antiphospholipid syndrome) This is often called ’sticky blood’ in that the patients have a tendency to clots both in the veins and arteries. The thrombosis may present either dramatically or over a period of time with clots in major vessels, even including the brain. It is vital that this diagnosis is made (a simple blood test for antiphospholipid antibodies is available in most major hospitals). Pregnant women who have antiphospholipid antibodies have a tendency to clot the placenta and develop recurrent miscarriages and these can be prevented by diagnosis and treatment. Although this syndrome was first discovered in lupus patients it is now recognised that many, if not the majority, of patients with Hughes syndrome have no other features of lupus nor will they develop lupus in the future. — Andy For Austrian philately <URL: http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/austamps/> For Lupus <URL: http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/lupus/> For my other interests <URL: http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/>

I wish I could speak from "the other side of the fence" (male -vs- female), but as a one of the few males with SLE (and RA/Marfan’s Syndrome) whose taking all those meds (MTX, Enbrel, etc.), we’ve (that’s my wife and I) been doing everything we can to avoid her becoming pregnant.   I was one of the lucky guys who found such a wonderful, beautiful, loving & caring woman who already had the son that I’d always dreamed of.   We’ve spoken with the Dr. many times regarding adding a new "member" to our family, but it’s been frowned upon. I really wish I had more info to offer you. ——————————————————————– Kendall F.
