I have never heard of it but anything is possible-anxiety causes many dermotological and hormonal changes and chronic stress is related to many dermotological changes from excema to psoriasis to acne- meds I supposse under some crazy conditions cause it but the leading causes aside pulling it out yourself and the usuall ageing stuff are male pattern baldness which is hereditary or a condition called alopecia which is an auto immune disorder-hair loss can be a signof other medical conditions from liver abnormalities to lupus-so if your healthy and your mothers father was bald then you got a good shot at it yourself. If your maternal grandfather had a head of hair and you are losing patches down to scalp go to a dermologist for treatment of alopecia. LM

Yes, Petro, I have. And it drove me NuTz! I didn’t know WHAT to think about it… I asked the docs, and I got different *ideas* as to why this was happening. Once I got stabilized on meds, AGAIN, the excessive hair loss STOPPED. This happened to me more than once, BTW. I have a full head of hear, so no one I talked about seemed as concerned about it as I did. They didn’t SEE the evidence, but I did! I was finding my hair everywhere. My current doc tells me it was PROBABLY due from anxiety, as he didn’t see any other REASON behind it, and he also told me he’s seen it before in other patients of his. I have lost some hair….receding hair line. But if that is the worst thing then its no biggie to me personally. I would shave my head if it would help my anxiety. I never thought of hair loss being connected to anxiety…for me I think it was more connected to smoking but that was me. Remember….its only hair. I have noticed some hair loss, especially after washing my hair. A hairdresser noticed it once and said it can be caused by stress. Well that just made me feel more stressed. I have queried my doctor and he suggested that it is usually genetic. My sister lost patches of hair but that was caused by a non-functioning thyroid. Fortunately I have a lot of hair so I try not to let it concern me to much. Meryl
Hi Meryl, My mom has been using the same hairdresser since I was a kid. And he always knows when she is under stress, because of her thinning hair. And when my thyroid was failing I was losing alot of hair, especially noticable after a shower. The medication Synthroid, which I take for my thyroid can also cause hair loss in the beginning.Takecare!! Jackie

When my GAD was first rearing its ugly head I noticed problems with my hair falling out. Not in chunks or anything, but enought that I noticed it was not normal. In addition I noticed my hair texture seemed different as well as my skin. I was told that this could be attributed by some chemical changes which probably was the cause of my anxiety problems to begin with. This is not highly unusual, and mine leveled out and now I am back to normal (mostly).
