Question:

He arrived late last night with his special girl and sporting a fine-looking beard.  Yes, it felt good to wrap my arms around him.  But even better is knowing we’ll have a week to chat and catch up on news.  Although our mission is for our kids to grow up and out, it is a bit stunning just how fast it all happens.  (I admit, though, that there were times when the process seemed much too long!!) Hi BJ and All it isn’t odd – just the relief and making sense thing I guess. tuna salad sandwiches and baked potatoes with low fat plain yoghurt on top. might add been painfully thin for sometime … so the novelty of potential weight gain will be nice as long as I don’t blow out to become the whale that eats the tuna :-) popcorn is cool, got one of those machines that churns it out using hot air – great invention. what is really great is energy to play hide and seek with the kids! Sal

Response:

HI BJ, I’m hanging in there.  Been off the Prozac for a week now.  Feels like part of my brain that was asleep is waking again.  No depression, and I am starting to feel like myself again. Had some night sweats this week, along with joint pain.  Also, I have developed a sore inside my nostril, just inside, along the cartilage. It keeps scabbing over, and will not go away.  It has been there for a few weeks now.  Not too painful most of the time, but my nose runs a lot, so I’m always touching it with a handkerchief. Still no results on the immunofixation. Thanks for asking! Wes – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -On Fri, 1 Mar 2002 13:39:34 -0600, "BJ" <B…@sk.nojunk.ca> wrote: >Where is everyone? Hi Wes > Excellent news!  Isn’t it wonderful to find a doctor like that?  My > nephrologist is the same way.

Yeah! It is actually!  I went in one week from one end of the spectrum to the other with these 2 docs.  Between being slapped on the wrist for being put on pred and implied that I was *exaggerating* to the other end where it was decided I was nowhere near at the level I needed to get back on track. The difference in opinions and the different treatments offered pale in comparison. I find this great doc very empowering and I am so happy to hear that your nephrologist is like that too.  Makes dealing with it all just that essential little bit less hard than what it has to be. Thanks for taking the time out to reply, considering your own things you are dealing with currently Wes, very much appreciated! I hope you have a mellow day (what I think is a perfect day!) :-) Sal

Response:

Congratulations!!! I know I freaked when they said lupus but after the initial shock wore off and I found out that lupus was controlled these days I settled into the Dx with enthusiasm. At least they won’t be experimenting on me or acting like it was all in my head. (See, I really do have something wrong with me!) There is something very comforting knowing there is a real label for what you have and medication to treat it when it gets bad. It is such a wonderful feeling when you find a really good doctor that understands and takes the time to actually talk to you! I’m sure having the confirmation of something you already knew helps your mental state as well as the new drugs. But tuna sandwiches?????? Be careful about feeding the prednisone!!! Busy as usual. Next week is going to be very busy!!! At some point in the next few days I will know if any of my photographs have been accepted for the art museum’s exhibit. Wed. is hubby’s start date of radiation therapy for his cancer. Wed. evening I am giving a lecture on ornamental shrubbery. Friday night is the reception for the art museum with food and live music. (Must dress nicely.) Saturday morning is the bucket brigade, fund raiser for the rescue squad. It really is fun!!! We stand in the middle of the road with our buckets and beg for donations. (Anyone in charge of weather formations please take my request for a warm but not too sunny day!) (Side note: last year a pickup came through towing a camper. They said they were just passing through so we said "well, we hope you have a very safe trip because if anything happens to you while you are here in Suffolk we will not be calling your rescue squad in Ohio". They said we were right and dropped a $20 in the bucket. We thanked them and wished them well.) And of course I never know when I will be called into work. Physically, I’m the usual "fine" but have been plagued for days with a nasty on-again-off-again headache. Still trying to clean my bedroom. Sorry you asked, BJ??? Like the one he actually called up their university and asked if *anyone* had checked in on this poor soul, because they obviously needed help. I’ve been on the net so many years that I usually just shrug off this type of thing, unless it’s someone I know personally.  I have at least been behaving myself and not feeding the flames.  Some people just beg to be messed with, but I try not to do that online in the support groups. — Lee M.Thompson-Herbert        l…@retro.com            KoX 1995, SP4 Head Muso, White Rats Morris Member, Knights of Xenu (1995).  Chaos Monger and Jill of All Trades. Hi Sal, That is great news. I guess that sounds like an odd thing to say. SLE is not great news, but you have it, so you need a diagnosis. Well, you know what I mean. It is a relief to know. I reacted much as you have to the diagnosis. I knew I was in big trouble, so I felt better just giving it a name. It sounds like you have a great doctor. I am glad that you found us, and that it has all worked out for you. So it is tuna sandwiches, is it? With me it is popcorn. Mind you, I am a bit weird anyway. Keep well, and keep in touch. Tired, but okay.  Allergy season has arrived in California with a vengeance. We’re hemmorhaging money this week (my car, his car, vet bills).  And I seem to have become embroiled in a flamewar over on alt.support.arthritis. A lot of folks who don’t know how to use their newsreaders AND get offended when you suggest they maybe learn to trim down linelength and at least _try_ and reply to the message they’re referring to, not another one made by someone else entirely.  You know, the things that make this ascii-only format readable.  I’ve been accused of engineering the whole flame war, even though I appear to have walked into the middle of it.  My goodness, at least some of the posters over there are humorless.  Not all, just the one throwing temper tantrums this week. I just threw this URL out at them.  We’ll see if I get flamed again [hahah] http://www.winternet.com/~mikelr/flame1.html This is the Flame Warriors page.   — Lee M.Thompson-Herbert        l…@retro.com            KoX 1995, SP4 Head Muso, White Rats Morris Member, Knights of Xenu (1995).  Chaos Monger and Jill of All Trades. Hi Lee, Thank you for doing the check in. Some people take themselves far too seriously. I would think they would have better things to get upset about. I hope it doesn’t bother you to be in the middle of that sort of thing. Why is it that one big expense is always followed by another? It must be a rule or something. We have had that happen too. Sometimes Lee, you just can’t help people.  I’ve not visited ASA.  but so many groups are always teetering on the edge of a flame war so it doesn’t take much for one person to push them over that edge (even if it was totally unintentional or designed to be informative.)  I had multiple knives protruding from my back when I left a previous group because I asked a newbie to stop chastising people for posting test posts or jokes.  The newbie had managed to quickly build a support structure of some of the regulars (ignoring the fact that I’d been there for 2 years and never so much as gotten a "go to H*ll") and my request was perceived as "attacking this poor lost soul."  I never felt so betrayed.  I’ve come a long way since then – realizing that you just gotta shrug  some of this crud off. Oh, BTB, I’m here. :)
