Question:
I have had the same type of what I now term as "lupus lumps". I had them for a long time on my neck and face, finally went to a dermatologist and he biopsied them and it came back as systemic lupus. I treat them with Temovate, which is a cortisone ointment, it helps them to lessen the itch and redness plus the dryness. The Elocon you are on will do the same thing, I have used it in the past. My lumps/rash did go away but recently we have discontinued ALL treatment for my lupus, so they are starting to reappear. Best of luck to you-any questions just holler! God Bless. Cindy

Sounds like SCLE to me. Years ago I had somethng simular but, it was all over my body — looked like burns. Mine started on my chest… It took mega doses of steroids to cure mine. LOL — I know how you feel. Now, if I could just get the rash/lesions in my scalp to clear……..

Make sure you’re seeing a dermatologist very familiar with autoimmune diseases. If you’re having trouble finding one, try a teaching hospital or research institution. What you’re describing does sound very much like discoid lupus. A dermatologist needs to look at it and probably biopsy it though to be sure. Sandra

I see the dermatologist tomorrow. Not sure how well-versed he is in autoimmune disorders. This referral came from my internist who is not affiliated with major teaching facility, all my other doctors are. I see my rheumatologist today and will show it to her and also ask for derm referral in case the guy tomorrow doesn’t work out. Will keep you guys posted as to the outcome. Thanks. I had what you are describing and it too started on my chest. I use Elocon cream but they come and go. Had them for about 4 years now. Just another symptom of SLE. J&C <m…@earthlink.net> wrote in message

Okay, I know you have probably all covered this topic 50 million times, but as a newcomer to this group I have to ask about the rash again.
About six weeks ago, or more, I developed this red, round (about the size of a dime to the size of a quarter) type spots on my chest. There were only a few so I didn’t pay much attention to them, thought it was some kind of dry skin thing. Finally showed them to my Internist last week and she sent me for a derm appointment, which I am doing this coming Tuesday. These spots only itch when they are small and first erupt, after that the itching goes away and I am stuck with this red, somewhat dry-looking patch/es. Now there are a lot more of them scattered across my chest, arms, torso and few on my upper legs. Doctor didn’t think they were fungal as they didn’t itch. Have used all kinds of stuff for dry skin, both OTC and prescribed. Internist finally gave a prescription for some type of cream (Elocon) and cautioned me to only use on the ones that are itching until I get to the dermatologist. I know about the lupus rash on the face and across the bridge of the nose, which I have had many times in the past 20 years. This is different and is unresponsive. Anyone have any experience with this type of rash???? I swear, I just get rid of one symptom and then something else crops up. I feel like I am falling apart, and none of these symptoms are ever easily explained or solved. Thanks for all your help as I go through this process of diagnosis! CC
