having a member of the family with autoimmune disease of some sort can lead to a low positive ANA titre. Of course, there are several autoimmune diseases, any of which can cause an elevated ANA. I’ve heard that thyroid problems can cause an low pos. ANA – I’m not sure if that’s true. according to Wallace – some infections can cause an elevated ANA. >I read somewhere that for every 10 million positive ANAs that >only 1 million had Lupus?
this is according to Dr. Wallace’s ‘95 edition of The Lupus Book. I am not a doctor so what I’m about to say should be taken with a grain of salt: It is my *belief* based on the many people I’ve met over the years that have gone undiagnosed that a certain percentage of the "10 million" will eventually show autoimmune disease symptoms. And of course, this statement only speaks to SLE – Dr. W. doesn’t say how many of the 10 million may have other autoimmune diseases such as RA, scleroderma, Wegener’s Granulomatosis, and so on. >And I have read about DRUG-induced Lupus? What are some of the other things that can cause a positive ANA? I read somewhere that for every 10 million positive ANAs that only 1 million had Lupus? And I have read about DRUG-induced Lupus? Anyone know where I can find more info on that please? THANK YOU! Dawn

Hi Dawn, I know how worried and upset you are right now. It all seems so much to handle. You may find some of the info you are looking for at www.lupus.org. I also thought that I would reply to your other post at the same time. I get rashes from the sun, headaches and my eyes are very sensitive to bright light, particularly when I am in a flare up of illness. There can be other reasons for this as well. It is all very overwhelming for you just now. It is unfortunate that you got your test results before you could see your doctor. The doctor is the best one to interpret the results. I am thinking about you. I hope this may help. a high ANA can possibly be indicative of many autoimmune disorders and lupus is just one of them. See a good list at: www.aarda.org To determine which autoimmune disorder (IF ANY!!!!) you have (don’t get paranoid on yourself although it is very easy to do), you can evaluate which symptoms match with which disease AND your doctor can offer run more specific tests for the different autoimmune diseases that you/he think might be a match. I’m not sure about drug-induced lupus, but one thing I’m curious about myself (for personal reasons) is – did you take any steroids BEFORE having these problems? If so, how much, which one, and for what? No, I didnt take any steriods. I take Celexa, Prevacid, did take some Vioxx and now on Celebrex. Also sometimes take Elavil (amitriptiline) for headaches. And I eat soy – wondering how that might fit into the picture, if at all. Thanks for the info – dawn "AMM" <newsgroupREMOVEALLCAPSacco…@yahoo.com> wrote in message
