Question:
Darn it. I was getting into green tea as a cold drink. I don’t like it hot. Bev "KCat" <kcdoc…@ghg.net> wrote in message

Hi, Same thing with me. I am now controlled with low maintenances doses of Prednisone only, and I find that finding peace and removing as much negative stress as possible in your life (emotional, diet, financial, physical activity, lack of sleep, pollution, etc) will keep you quite stable. It’s worked for me. Actually, the best thing is to fall in love, actually (with a person, a passion, etc). I recently reconciliated with my musical passion, and fell in love with my best friend that I’ve known for 11 years (and got engaged)… I’m very confident that this is helping me a lot. Hope this helps you too, Alexandre "Shelagh" <valleylu…@telus.net> wrote in message

Cindi wrote re: natural treatments that might help. I do take some supplements that have been shown in peer-reviewed studies to help with certain problems that are related to SLE but do not treat the disease directly. These are Fish Oil (or similar oil that contains Omega-3 Fatty Acids) and Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement. O3 FAs are known to help control cholesterol levels and reduce inflammation. It is not necessary to take the huge doses that the supplement makers would like you to take (so as to sell more of their expensive product). G/C has been shown to improve the cushioning of the joints. My dog is now on it as well as she has hip dysplasia – we are in the trial period of this supplement for both of us. IMO, 4 major concerns with supplements should be addressed. 1. make sure you are buying from a reputable dealer/manufacturer. I believe GNC is pretty reliable. the G/C supplement is a bit more finicky – I recommend looking for one by a company called…Nutramax. This is the company that makes my dog’s med but I am told they make a human version as well. I had already bought GNC’s version before learning about Nutramax. 2. make sure you tell your doctors if you intend to try an alternative medicine 3. don’t jump into a pile of alternative treatments all at once – if you have a bad (or even good) reaction you will have trouble distinguishing which med is causing the reaction. Try one at a time for at least a week or so with each attempt. 4. check labels carefully. in general, echinacea and green tea are not recommended for lupies (sorry, can’t remember why on the Green tea) and make sure there is no alfalfa base in any of your supplements. Though it takes quite a lot of alfalfa to cause a problem, if you are taking it daily I believe that over time you will put yourself at risk for a flare. having the occasional sprouts with your sandwich shouldn’t be a concern for *most* people but I have known of one person who actually became very sick from this – it might have been an allergy however – no way to know for certain. The main thing is to know what’s in there and what things we are pretty sure can be negative to our systems. If a product is described as "immune-system boosting" then you should probably steer clear. Likewise, I’m not sure what "immune system balancing" really means biologically – IMO it’s a marketing phrase but I could be wrong (hey, it happens <G>) so I’d also be careful with alternatives that claim to do this. the goal in treating SLE is largely to reduce the immune system activity. so it doesn’t make sense, IMO, to take things that boost it or otherwise enhance it. Hi Cindy, I have had some first hand experience with natural remedies. I was loosing weight and feeling poorly. I knew I was going into a flare, so I made an appt with a well respected homeopathic physician. He was very thorough and put me on an all natural diet and some herbal remedies. I continued to loose weigh and got sicker. I followed his instructions to the letter. I then became dangerously ill and was actually in a life threatening situation. It didn’t work for me. It was very expensive, and I would never try that again. I could likely remember a lot of what he did if you want more details. BJ-Sk. I too tried natural in the beginning….it was called ‘barley green’ and the theory was to drink this green powder with milk twice a day enriching your body with the sprouts of all kinds of greens….well you can probably imagine what happened…sprouts and lupus is a known ‘no-no’ and of course I got extremely ill to the point of ending up in hospital for 11 days!
