Hi, Anti-phospholipid syndrome, aka APLS which Bruce suggested you look into can exist in and of itself without overlapping lupus or other autoimmune disease.   I think the best place to start is with a proper blood work-up.  CBC, ANA, anti-dsDNA, anti-Sm, anti-Ro, anti-LA and ACA.  ACA is the major test used to look for APLS.  the Lupus Anticoagulant test can also provide information.  You might never have had noticeable symptoms of autoimmune disease prior to pregnancy because pregnancy is a known "trigger" for latent disease to become active.  There are ways to get proper treatment though and carry to term – but you would want to have doctors knowledgeable in treatment of such problems as well as a rheumatologist and/or endocrinologist.  All that is said of course with the idea that you get a diagnosis of some form of autoimmune disease.   I’d like to recommend you start off with our FAQ as far as basic gist of SLE and URLs to knowledgeable folks re: APLS.  the FAQ URL is in my signature below. St. Thomas Lupus Trust’s site is no longer correct on the FAQ but I’ve not been able to finish updates (tho Andy, Sandra and I are working on it).   http://www.lupus.org.uk I mention this site because it has some of the latest info on APLS and the UK medical POV. Thank You for all the information I haven’t had any test done yet but now I can go to my doctor and request some, with some knowledge on it…

Check into "Hughes Syndrome" aka Antiphospholipid Symdrome. Some links on my site, also http://www.lupus.org.uk
