I guess its Lupus

Question:

Hi Kimby, I know that it takes a while for the diagnosis to settle into your mind. You are already doing the right thing by reading about lupus. Keep in mind though, that not everybody gets all of the things that lupus can cause. I don’t have kidney problems, so have read very little about it. I will worry about that one if it comes my way.  That is just one example. At first it is overwhelming. Lupus is treatable and some people go through their entire lives without every having any life threatening events. Sometimes it only takes some lifestyle adjustments and simple meds. You’ll have good and bad days, but medications help. Posting here is great – you can get all sorts of advice and BTDT examples.

Hi all, I went to my second rheumatologist for all this crazy stuff going on.  He had me fill out one of those questionare sheets about symptoms before I came and I was almost afraid to check everything on the list because he might think I was a hypochondriac.   Anyway, after examining me and based on the symptoms, test results, he seems to feel it is Lupus.  Wishing it were Lymes so it could be treated and cured.  Now what am I supposed to expect ? Everyday for the rest of my life I will have pain ?  I bought a book about Lupus, but have so many questions.

Kimmy, It is hard to say what to expect.  One might say "more of the same" if you have been suffering your symptoms for a number of years.  I had been told that once you established a pattern for yourself that new symptoms were a rarity, but that seems to be not to be the case for me.  I do have new things going on now, after 25 years of a fairly stable "set" of symptoms. I would say to you that the good news is that lupus tends to remit.  I mean, you could have something that tends to progress, and to me, that would be harder to bear.  When I am in pain, I say to myself "this is gonna feel really good when it stops!"  It always stops, sooner or later, and so I take hope in that.
