I believe I have Lupus

Question:

Over the years I’ve had many different ongoing symptoms that still continue. Last year I was given an anti-nuclear anti-body blood test because I had a butterfly red rash on my face and  the bones were rubbing together in my knees causing bad pain. The results came back on the highest side of normal, but not over the edge. The doctor called me and told me everything is fine and I should be happy nothing is wrong with me. However, I keep thinking how I always get hives on my face, am very sun sensitive, also get red spots all over my face in patches, numb hands and feet off and on sometimes lasting for weeks at a time, chronic headaches and TMJ, and sometimes facial pain so bad I end up with pinhead size purplish red bruises on my face. My shoulders hurt and sometimes I’m in agony laying in bed at nights and can’t even move my arms. This has been going on for years now. Right now I have an inflammed lymph node that feels like a lump in my throat. I’m taking Relafen for it. I did just get over a sinus infection the week before, though. Okay, do all these things add up, or am I just a hypochondriac?! Any ideas how to get a doctor to take me seriously? Thanks, Eileen Enpsyc…@aol.com

<< The doctor called me and told me everything is fine and I should be happy nothing is wrong with me. >> I guess you could be happy if that were true.  Based on what you’ve written, it’s obvious that something IS wrong with you.  It’s not very comforting to think that the doctor is totally disregarding all your symptoms and considers the way you feel to be normal!  I think I’d go for another opinion.  Why not contact the Lupus Foundation to find a local lupus support group.  Contact that support group for a referral to a good rheumatologist.   Best wishes, Sandra
