Diagnosis….and Kenalog..

Question:

Frousse, I know that many therapists use water therapy, because it allows you to exercise muscles freely without resistance. Wish I had a pool close to me.  Do some exercises for me, okay?  KimIn article <01c02a64$322ed4c0$4de9a1d1@a>,   "frousse" <frou…@idirect.ca> wrote: > Thank you all for your responses….and I don’t believe there is anything > wrong with my thyroid gland. Hi I have DLE and also have had the kenalog shots in my head for lesions and my face, neck ect… it really helps along with 400 mg of Plaquinal… Do you have a thyroid problem? This to can cause simliar itching problems and hair thinning, ect… I have Hypothyriodism and itching sometimes drives me crazy!! Alot at night, have big bruises because of it. Don’t know what illness is causing the itch but a freind of mine told me she has a thyroid problem and her doctor said the icth is from that??? I do know but the DLE rash makes me itch really bad as well. mary/az

A few weeks ago, I underwent a bunch of tests and skin biopsies to determine if I had Lupus. The tests all came back negative for Lupus…even the skin biopsies. My dermatologist has said that as of August this year, I’m negative for Lupus. My skin has bothered me a lot this summer, with lesions so itchy I’ll have scars for the rest of my life from the itching. It is still acting up, although it’s not as bad as it was in July. Also, I’ve started to have a few lesions show up in my hair, at the top of my neck….besides the ones on my back, chest and stomach. This doc will give me shots of Kenalog directly in the lesions….anyone has experience with this? He says it will make them go away temporarily. I take Atarax occasionally at bedtime for the itching…I say occasionally because I hate meds and these ones really make me feel groggy and foggy-eyed in the am. He also said we will retest next summer but for now, his words are "you have a skin condition of unknown origin"…..yet, he seems to think I have this Discoid Lupus thing…..he mentions it will probably return full force in the spring, when the sun starts to get stronger. The hairloss I was experiencing this summer has also improved….is this a normal occurence when the disease goes ‘dormant’? Gee, this is so confusing.   F

Frousse, Kenalog can often give long term relief, and also relief in 24 hours in such cases as poison(oak, ivy, etc).  So my consideration is that he is trying to control the inflammation of the lesions, and your discomfort.  Definately worth a try, and keep us posted.  KimIn article <01c0282a$d7dd0ea0$deeea1d1@a>,   "frousse" <frou…@idirect.ca> wrote: – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> A few weeks ago, I underwent a bunch of tests and skin biopsies to > determine if I had Lupus. Hi there. you asked about sores on the head..Well I had a heck of a time having docs decide what they were.. My rheumy from a well known clinic had no idea. she just really dismissed them at the time because of the other major problems I was having…I finally got to a dermy and he said they were from lupus and the sun,  to wear a hat… They hurt like heck…first was the swelling then the itch then the pain, like a boil that was about to burst…then they opened up and seeped and left scars…I had them on top of my head and mainly behind the ears and neck hair line…well that don”t leave much head left..LOL I was given a solution of betamethozone liquid by him.  a prescription and had to apply it sparingly to the scalp lesions twice a day..it really helped…No shot thank goodness. What tests did he do…If only a ANA well that can be negative with lupus and in some people some tests are negative one time and positive the next..a neg ANA does not mean you do not have lupus….If he said it will come back full force this next spring well ask him why he thinks that.  I do know I was told by the dermy that even in cloudy weather I should always wear a hat, there are rays that come through a cloudy day..so I do wear one.  and believe me it does help. I would ask him what he means and do you see a rheumy too…what are other symptoms you may have… good luck — Janers "Somedays are diamonds, Somedays are stones" Somedays this pain won’t leave me the hell alone"
