Question:
I was wondering if anyone here takes Arava, Enbrel, Remicade, Methotrexate, etc even though you experience no organ involvement. I have been a stay at home mom for 6 yrs… went back to work for 3 hrs a day…. I’m walking around most of that time (what was i thinking??) Well, now I’m experiencing a lot of joint pain. I’m already on Plaquenil and Vioxx…. plus other meds… I have Norco which I’m taking 4/day now. Not to mention the muscle spasms that I take Zanaflex for….. I don’t know if I should inquire about the above meds or just ask for a different pain med? Any ideas? Nicole

Hi Nicole, I take methotrexate and have not had organ involvement. From what I read in Dr. Wallace’s book, this seems normal (at least for his patients), "I restrict its use to lupus patients who have active joing inflammation without significant skin or organ-threatening disease." Hi Nicole, I’m taking Methotrexate right now and I have no organ involvement. However, my lupus isn’t responding to any of the other meds I’m on (Imuran, Prednisone, Plaquinil) and she was looking into Cytoxan therapy for me (that’s a whole other story). I am also experiencing joint pains and muscle spasms, which I am going to mention to her as soon as I speak to her today, since they have only gotten worse.
