? any chat rooms

Question:

Thanks for your response.  It’s not just that AOL has a ‘wall’, but also that web-based chat rooms seem to proliferate, and split a community of interest into isolated pieces.  One might have to search out a dozen web pages plus AOL chat rooms, plus IRC channels to hit all bases.

Response:

sheila, aol has a couple of lupus groups open from time to time.  life with lupus and life and lupus both in member life category.  e-mail me if u need more info.

Response:

With AOL I go to keyword:chat.  Go to find a chat and look under  Created by AOL Members.  There is a room call Life and Lupus under the Life catigory. Hope this helps.

Response:

Also, go to www.dejanews.com and click on health, chat, and type in "lupus" and I think you’ll find one there.    Hugs, Mare – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -LBIT18 wrote in message <19990407154514.24660.00000…@ng24.aol.com>… >With AOL I go to keyword:chat.  Go to find a chat and look under  Created by >AOL Members.  There is a room call Life and Lupus under the Life catigory. >Hope this helps.

Hi, I stopped using Undernet because of lags and splits…but still do a lot of ircing, on Powerchat now.  But I wish there were a lupus or rheum disease channel there. The chat room at my web site is a little strange but at least is open to anyone, not just people from a given ISP… Pam Pamela Gross * b…@ix.netcom.com Rheumatic Disease Web Site!!! http://www.silcom.com/~sblc PLEASE help disabled people get a little closer toward being ALLOWED to work: http://www.silcom.com/~sblc/incentimprv.html

It is possible to do both. We have AOL and access it through this provider. By using this method we can bypass the AOL delays for internet things and also enjoy the features of AOL that we choose to. George

Response:

Blades, Part of the problem on undernet is the lack of support/maintenance by AOL on their end of the connection, and the respective "nets" dropping or having to drop connection to AOL.  This has been resolved on some of the nets, such as DALnet, but is AOL’s refusal to take responsibility for their users’ connections on these nets has created many of the "lost chatters" areas.  Other AOL users keep trying in spite of it. AOL, being a proprietary closed system, effectively cuts of it’s users from the outside world unless the outside world adapts somewhat to conform with their software.  The outside world generally refuses because of the proprietary nature and it’s ramifications to users other than AOL.  If you post a request, say once a week or so, reminding the NG of the "net" channels available for them outside of AOL, you may see an slight increase in population on those channels. Response:

It bothers me that the many who don’t use AOL can’t access their Chat Romms.  I use Internet Relay Chat (IRC) and have watched over the last two years people disappear in droves to using AOL or other web-based chats, which cuts out the many who access IRC directly through a local ISP.   There’s probably no solution because the net is uncontrolled.  Even so, the result is seperate groups who don’t or can’t communicate with one another.  Something is being lost, especially to those who can’t access AOL.  Why not join AOL you ask?  Well..in my limited experience, all the front end load on AOL is just unnecessary and subjects me to a whole lot of advertising I don’t like to pick my way through. In my limited experience, many AOL users are unaware of the IRC and don’t use it principally because they don’t know it exists. It’s something to think about folks.  I monitor the #lupus channel on undernet which was well used two years ago, and no is virtually always vacant.  Some sick people are losing out on valuable information and support. —

Hi I have been reading this site about a month. Are there any live chat support groups?  This is all new to me.  Is this the main message area also.  I enjoy reading from this site each day.  It gives me alot of support!  I do not feel like a hypochondriac knowing I am not alone with all this pain and other symptoms. Thank you Sheila

Response:

I noticed you have an AOL address… Type in Keyword:  Support Groups. There is the Lupus Mutual Support Group that meets several times weekly and has a newsletter it sends out. The people are great and there is a lot of support to be found. E-mail me if you have any trouble finding it, otherwise, I’ll look for you at the next meeting. :-) Krystie Rose
