You didn’t mention her "other symptoms", but if she gets a facial rash that appears in a butterfly-wing shape across her cheeks, it could be due to lupus erythematosus. - Michael: Tell your friend’s wife to see a doctor and have a blood test. Sun sensitivity can be a symptom of serious disease or a result of taking certain kinds of medication. She should *stay out of the sun* and wear suncreen all the time until she knows *why* this is happening all of a sudden. Good luck, Carol

Mr. Pfafflin says that his wife "breaks out in skin rashes among other symptoms". What are the other symptoms? I didn’t want to say anything until someone like Paul had a chance to answer this, but this could be a symptom of some serious disease coming on. Someone in my family had ALS and among the first symptoms was a rash which was an allergy to direct sunlight. However, no one is sure that this symptom was part of the ALS. It could have just been coincidence. I noted also that Mr. Pfafflin has what I think is a German last name. The German people are particularly prone to developing ALS. If one of her other symptoms is slurred speech, she should go to a specialist for a diagnosis. Among alternative healers, ALS is considered a Yang disease.
