A little introduction

Question:

Hi Carina,  Welcome.  We look forward to getting to know you also.  What do you take for your RA?   As you have read, we are having a little famley squable but should be back to normal soon. Harv – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Okay, Char said I should introduce myself. I have been hanging around for a long time trying to figure out how this newsgoup thing works and finally started posting some messages – without of course properly introducing myself. I was diagnosed w/RA about a year ago but have had it at least 3 years. Things are up and down (like for most of you) with good days and bad. I’m been in a yucky flare the last few weeks (stayed home today to feel take a break). You guys are such a cool group and offer so much great info and support! Thank you! By the way, you are also responsible for getting me totally addicted to the internet, message boards and newsgroups. I spend way too much time doing my research and I’m driving my husband nuts!!! Oh well, knowledge is power, right? Take care all of you and I look forward to getting to know you! Carina

Response:

Hi Harv, Right now I’m on prednisone – 5 mg keeps things bearable. I’ve been researching DMARDS and Minocycline – my RD recommends Plaquenil. Right now I hoping to get pregnant pretty quick and start taking the DMARDs afterward if I have to. Although I know it’s pretty important to catch the RA early. I’m still in research mode – trying to learn all I can! Thanks for the interest! Carina

Response:

Hi Carina and Sarah let me add my welcomes to the wagon.. yes our ng gets flares too.. the good thing about flares is they come and go.. hang in and we’ll show you around a great bunch of people.. just not maybe this week Kate    Send in the clowns

Response:

Hi Sarah, and al the newcomers to the group.  I have been off- line for two months due to major surgery and a major flare.  Just tapered off heavy duty morphine dose, still feeling edgy – but thrilled that the Imuran kicked in within three weeks this time – and without the methotrexate shot.  That is the best for me – no more metho.  I am so anemic from surgery that my Hematocrit and Hemoglobin are 27 and 9.1 so I couldn’t tolerate the bone marrow suprression of the high doses of the metho I was taking before.  I am very elated about this change in medication  - and the results so far.   While I was in hospital, the surgeon told me one day that I had the classic malar butterfly rash on my face- maybe a touch of lupus to go with the PA – dunno – but the Imuran is working great. Hello to all my old friends , hope to hear from you all soon, Michelle Sending healing thoughts your way- and God Bless You, Michelle My best advice – get a pet today – they are a natural anti-depressant!!!

Response:

Michelle-Welcome home!  Glad things are working out for you.  Sorry the sand box is such a mess right now, but hopefully it will be back to normal soon.  Take a little time and get caught up a little.  Let everybody have a chance to welcome you home.            Glad you’re back,  Char – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi Sarah, and al the newcomers to the group. Welcome back, Michelle!  So that’s what happened to you!  Glad to hear you are doing so well.  As to the rash, I’d discuss it with your rheumy… although they do know bones great, the surgeon is probably not the best one to tell if you have lupus or not.  You might also be getting a little flaring of ps to go with your pa, since you are changing meds, although that doesn’t usually show up on the face.  But there are lots of rashes, so we’ll hope it’s something benign that will disappear quickly. Best regards, LadyAndy2

I’m 38, married (18 yrs) to a saint, and mother of 4 (3 teenagers at the moment).

Hi, Sarah! Hang in there, teens do grow up. Now, if I could just get them to leave home. <GRIN I am 46, married 24 years, and have a daughter (21 this August, still lives at home) and a son (19 this August, in the Army but hates it and plans to return home…legally or not. Sigh) I live in Massachusetts, (USA).

That’s okay. We won’t hold it against you. I have a wicked sense of humor…but it is NEVER my intention to offend ANYONE…so, PLEASE, take me with a grain of salt!

Great! You’ll fit right in here. However, I also have high blood pressure and can’t do salt. I’ll just have to take you as you are. :) Having RA has been a rollercoaster ride….uh….I think I’d like to get off now!

Yeah, and I want my money back, too. Welcome, Diana — It’s not the brains, it’s the attitude.

Welcome to the group, Carina and Sarah!  Hope you can wade through all the twaddle going on right now… these periods of group "decay" happen every so often, but all in all, this is a great group of folks and we have fun here, as well as support and information. Any new person, just in case they may have missed it, I do recommend they check out drdoc’s web site: http://www.aztec.co.za/users/drdoc/ Now welcome to the wonderful world of addicted newsgroup/internet fiends <G. Best regards, LadyAndy2

I have RA…since ‘89.  Tried all the usual NSAID’s…got a bleeding ulcer from them…tried plaquenil…nuttin happened.  So far methotrexate’s been the one thing that has worked…with a low dose of nortriptyline before bed and an occasional Darvocet chaser (actually…it’s a nightcap at this time).
