Question:
Some of us are getting a little bit tired of your responses. You claimed a while back you wouldn’t come back and post, yet here you are. I am starting to believe that you may be one of Sherry’s alter egos. You can’t even use your real name. As far as I’m concerned, your apology is empty. No one on this newsgroup that is speaking out would dare send virii to others. I have met them, but do not know you. Keep your damn opinions to yourself if your so sorry that you can’t even look at the evidence for yourself. Get a life. Jenn "Rifraf022" <rifraf…@aol.com> wrote in message

I am having a problem trying to understand something, I thought someone could help me. I have been a member of the Scleroderma Support Digest whom the moderator is Sherry Messick. Just out of the blue my subscription stop without any explanation. I didn’t understand why this has happened so I decided I would re subscribe-which I did last Friday night. I did get a replied back from Sherry Messick explaining this, something to do with my Yahoo ID #- and the delivery options had been changed to no mail. Please someone help me to understand how can this happened, since I did not changed the option. I hope I am making some sense as I am very confused about this. Looks like I am going to have to take some in depth computer lessons. Doris
Response:
Doris, Same thing happened to me before I officially unsubbed. Seems the moderator decides who she likes and who she dunt. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. The no mail delivery option, however, is great for people going on holiday so their inboxes aren’t shtuffed when they come back home. But this feature should always be an individual’s choice to change. Every member should be walked through signing up with Yahoo!, meaning one person should not have control (emotional or otherwise) over whether you get mail or not. Join Yahoo! Groups and join lists that way. You have your own ID and your own password as you should. If you didn’t subscribe to a list via Yahoo! groups but instead emailed the moderator and s/he subscribed you manually, s/he is the only one who can change your delivery options. Without a Yahoo! account, you have no access to this delivery option feature. You are trusting that s/he won’t abuse that "prerogative." And Yahoo! groups does NOT indiscriminately go through a member list and change the delivery option all by itself as one would like members to believe. If you wanted to unsub, you’d have to email her/him and trust that you’d be unsubbed instead of having the delivery option changed to web/no mail. You wouldn’t receive the list anymore so you think you’re unsubbed. If you believe your subscription to this list still exists but you wish not to be a member of said list, call Yahoo!. I found their customer care center very helpful. –Jaimes – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Doris wrote: > I am having a problem trying to understand something, I thought someone > could help me. If you all have the IP address of computers that are pinging you, have you been able to contact the source and find out what the hell? I’ve had no pings and no virii, but lots of junkmail. Perhaps there’s a hierarchy. I think the software folks are using is Zone Alarm, at http://www.zonelabs.com/ You can use a free version as long as it’s for personal use, and they have a Pro version for business use. Amie
Response:
Doris, I am saddened that you have made the choice to freely associate with anything sherry messick does. The digest is not a form of help and support, it is a form of gaining peoples trust and then using them up and discarding them. I would think you have learned that lesson by this time. Yes, I also have to admit, since speaking out publicly I also received an email from a person in Texas. They asked me to explain what happened to me, I did so. They thanked me and wished me well. Since that time, I have been subscribed to more crap on the internet and placed on more x rated mailing lists in addition to the bombardment of Virus emails. Funny how that all seemed to happen in just a short time. I would never say it was messick, it was just funny how the timing was so well connected. You walked away once, and you saw what was really going on there. If you choose to go back to this terrible source of information and support on line, or in person, you have my deepest wishes for the hurts only get worse the more they happen. Any personal abuse masked under the name of support is a lie and the hurt only gets worse with time. My very best to you. Don

Ok I want to know the name of that new program. I do not wish to break rules on selling products here but I just finished cleaning up three computers of these pesky critters and they are still coming at me like berserkers. Private email if it would be considered crossing the whatever line of product pushing in the NG. I use a well know program but it certainly doesn’t catch them on the fly. Kitty, I am so happy that you like this little group. There are some really wonderful people who stop in to visit and to post on a regular basis. I think it’s wonderful that you’ve decided to stay because you bring so much to our conversations. We like you and really appreciate your insight, both personal and professional . You don’t have to have SD, honest; all these autoimmune diseases can be nasty to live with, and we provide mutual support for each other. Gigi, Well, there’s a novel concept: Join another list, get found out, get punished. That sucks the big kahuna and is a terrible abuse of the privilege of moderating! Doris wasn’t referring to just today. Doris has not been receiving the sdanda list for a few weeks, I think. The moderator has tried to excuse the occurrence as "Yahoo! Phantom!" LOL! The moderator should be truthful and admit she changed the delivery option. Unfortunately Doris, Sherry has done as Sharon A just stated. If she in any way sees you as a threat to her, whether or not you are, you are history. I would think that if she cannot get you back on, I think I would consider it a form of prejudice. Why? Because she wants nothing to do with anyone that is friends or relating with those of us who know what she is doing. It appears, my friend, you have been excommunicated by process of association. The really funny thing is I started receiving virus, 4 total, in the past month since receiving private emails from some asking about what was going on. After a very brief announcements of "my" opinion, I mentioned I would go no further as I did not wish to receive any virus’. That was when I received them. As soon as I can this week, I am changing back to my old ISP, as they are much more thorough and a smaller company, therefore giving me peace of mind and private tech support. If you wish to receive the emails from the Digest, I suggest talking more with her via email and telling her you want it taken care of. Or, ask someone that you know well on the list to forward them to you. I want no part of her anymore. So I took it upon myself to unsub, before being treated the same. Stretching and imagination can go both ways. A person could be equally drawn to conclude that people here are the ones sending the viruses to others so they can turn around and blame Sherry and others for it. That theory is as logical as your theory. Face reality here. We don’t know what to believe.

Kathrine, Could you imagine how bad it would be if you had been posting of a scam or other trash. LOL Your computers would really be in hurting city. I have my virus scan and my email filters set to notify the postmaster of each site and AOL of the trash mail. I get messages at least 20 a day that a virus or spam mail was detected and reported according to program guidlines. This is just plain stupid. I guess when a person finally wakes up and discovers that people don’t like them, and why … the only thing for a true sociopath or person with borderline personality disorder left to do is lash out and try and hurt the other people. There is one difference between these kind of people and people I know with mental illness issues. The people I know are trying to deal with them instead of hurting others. What a concept. "When the dogs all stop to pee on a tree, that tree must be a good spot to pee on." Translation, some people only can give out one scent … and it ain’t pretty. ;-) Take care all, Don & Brandy hiding her eyes. LOL

I have contacted my ISP and am gathering further data to prove consistency. I have the Zone Alarm Pro firewall and the Norton Anti-Virus and even though you can download them for free, it only lasts for a short time. I suggest to anyone it is best to buy these programs. They are both awesome! HUGS~ Jenn/NC "Amelia Yaussy" <ayau…@forcemail.com> wrote in message

This is a very complex issue. Hits can happen from many sources. Often, these hits are done on a random basis where a hacker or an intruder uses random ISP numbers. I use Norton Internet Security, which is along the same lines as Zone Alarm. Because I have a cable internet service, I’m online 24 / 7. By default, my ISP (RoadRunner) blocks the ports most used by hackers and intruders. However, it’s better to have a firewall that puts your computer into stealth for this reason. Even though those ports are blocked, a hacker will get a reply stating the port is closed. So, someone out there knows there is a computer that has that ISP address and might keep trying to break in. With the firewall, when someone tries to make a hit, there will be no reply. So in essence, your computer does not exist to an intruder. Case in point – I had an outage recently. I always call the ISP to report it. He tried to ping me, but told me that there must be something wrong with my NIC. I told him I was in stealth and he said that my NIC was OK then, and that the firewall was doing its job. If your ISP can’t ’see’ you, then it’s very unlikely that someone else will break in. I do get messages that I’ve been hit, and check to see who’s knocking at my back door. Because I have the firewall, they give up after the first time instead of trying up to 150 times when not in stealth. As to virus problems, don’t open any .exe attachment on an email message, unless you know the sender and know that he or she is sending you an attachment. As a rule, I give a warning beforehand and wait for an acknowledgement before I send it. Same applies to anyone who wishes to send me one. Otherwise, I delete it at my server by using a program called Spam Killer. For those that use OE5, I strongly urge that you disable the preview window, as this often will launch and attachment before you have a chance to screen it. I knock on wood because in the 11 years I’ve been using computers, I’ve only gotten one virus infection. I’ve scanned and caught many infected attachments, but thanks to my delete key, I’ve remained unscathed. Many junk email messages are sent based on cookies created when you view a web page. You can disable the cookies, but you might not be able to use certain sites. You can set IE to warn you of cookies and elect to say yes or no. However, those warnings can be a nuisance. If you allow cookies, make sure you clean out the cookie jar on a regular basis. I know which cookies are OK and don’t delete them. The others I wipe out no questions asked. In a way, I wish someone would be able to get into my Quicken program. They might see how broke I am and show compassion for me by sending me a check.

Thanks I will recheck with zonelabs. I had tried the firewall and fogged up my glasses some how and never was able to get our wee network of 3 up until I uninstalled it and re-installed win98. The good news is I am patient and know with this "rare unknown disease" [grumble] some times my brain gets off the elevator on the wrong floor. That is ok because I love me. Letting go is easy if you except one concept. Tip for the day, Letting go is as easy as going to sleep. If you don’t get this on the fly, let it perk. God Bless this group, the love fills my house as I read even the notes about the mean folks. This is the place that I kept coming back to and reading when the tears and pain were tugging at me to leave the planet. I also read but seldom post in the lupus group. Good stuff there. But I believe this is a "special" place. Kitty "Amelia Yaussy" <ayau…@forcemail.com> wrote in message

Don, I have to agree with you with respect to the flooded inbox and the viruses. I, too, have been bombarded with viruses, and each time that I post another "expose" to this NG, I get more of them. Of course, my computer is well-protected; in fact, it has quite a few layers of protection now, and those layers manage to keep evil people at bay and out of my computer. There have been hundreds of "outside threats" in just the past week alone, not a mere pinging. I also agree that the activity appears to be very, very cyclic in nature–always starting within 24 hours of my latest example of Sherry’s aberrant behavior–and lately, my computer has had to filter out many attempted invasions from the U.K. Gee, I find that curious. Don’t you? Do we know anyone in the U.K. that would want to hurt any of us? Well, folks, think what you will. Jenn has been having the same problem, so it is NOT paranoia on my end, thank you very much. LOL Sharon "DAlfera" <dalf…@aol.com> wrote in message

Yes, my ISP is constantly trying to check my online existence, lol. But, sine I have the Zone Pro and it is in stealth mode, they just keep trying, lol. I haven’t set my Money program up yet. I have always had a fear of someone being able to get into the program, even though I am broke, lol. For instance, I have one share of a stock from years ago when I worked at a local bank. I had collected 11 shares, but cashed in on 10 when I left my ex, so as to have money to tie me over until I started my new job. The extra share accumulated when I had it placed in roll over for reinvestment. It started out at 14.25 per share and had gotten up to 65.00 per share and then split. That was after I sole my 10, lol. Now it is worth about 35.00. Oh well. Maybe it will go way up and one day I’ll be a millionaire? LOL! Doesn’t hurt to wish big dreams. I think I have a bigger chance of that by writing my books. I am in the process of my first one. I love fiction/mysteries and horror. My first is just a mystery. Even to me, lol.
