Ronnie Lane, 51, Founder of Small Faces

Question:

I know this sounds weird, but what he had sounds more like Lou Gehrig’s Disease, but then, I am not a doctor. I just don’t want the newbies to be scared by this. These diseases, and there are many, mimic each other, i.e. MS, Post Polio Syndrome, Lyme’s Disease, CFS, lupus, and a few others that don’t come to mind right now. I feel bad that someone has to die to get attention to the devils that attack us and he was doing a good job by bringing it to the public. I wish others would do the same, i.e Annette who is always portrayed as poor little dying girl, and Richard Pryor who is now WC bound, they can get out and do as much work to promote research and help for MS’rs if they would. I understand Annette does some, but haven’t seen her on national news doing anything, also Donna Fargo should be out there beating drums too, because a lot of her fans still care and would help with anything that they promote. Sorry, got on soap box again, back under the bed it goes. ;-) My sympathies go to the people and family of Ronnie Lane. Margaret

Response:

My "famous for fifteen minutes" was getting drunk with Ronnie Lane, Rob Stewart and Steve Marriott in a Manchester club about 30 years ago when I 18. Those were the days! I couldn’t play music, sing or compose hit songs but now I know I’ve something in common with Ronnie. God bless him. Steve

Response:

My "famous 15 minutes" was when, dressed only in a towel for a toga and knickers,  I was kissed on the cheek by Acker Bilk (jazz musician, possibly now departed?) at the Shrewsbury Arts Ball in 1963 when I was 17.  Yep, those were the days but I quite like being 51 – its comfortable after all that angst! Helen :)
