Have you ever watched "Two Fat Ladies" (Jennifer Paterson and Clarissa Dickson Wright) on FoodTV? I’ve had Raynaud’s since early teens. Had no idea it could be a tip-off of more autoimmune problems to come. Just found Wristies myself through Plow and Hearth. If you wear a glove size 7 or smaller, get the children’s size. Same tips as all the others, plus naturopath told me to increase my intake of niacin, though be careful! Nothing like a niacin flush to give you a good scare. Rebecca in Denver

Interesting, because my wife’s Sjogrens (or some such affliction) has led to her esophagus violently objecting to all hot spice, especially chilli! >I still get cold hands and >feet but its tolerable now and I dont feel I need medication. I agree also. This year I’m finally wearing hats for the cold (not just for sunshade) and I’m amazed at how much my nose has thawed! We find that avoiding sudden changes in temperature is the ticket. When getting things from the freezer, use an oven mitt, don’t hold a glass with cold liquid- use a snuggy… heated gloves and socks in cold weather (get them warm "before" going outside), nice warm hats… Doesn’t always work, but seems to help keep it all manageable. Same thoughts as aerochicks. From about April to August I wear gloves outside all the time. It seems to stop the rewarming pain when I come inside. I take Adalat OROS 20mg at night to help (Only reason I take it at night is that because its a BP med and my BPs ok..I get head spins if I take it then get going in the morning) I have heard gingko biloba is also useful but haven’t tried it myself. I have secondary raynauds’ severely, and am on sustained release verapamil at the max. dosage of 480 mg/daily or 240mg SR x2/daily. I find it to be very effective and keeps the vessels open 90% of the time… if I am dumb and don’t wear gloves outdoors, clean out the freezer without gloves or stay in swimming too long then of course NOthing works. I found ‘wristies’ online, I think via a link from KC and find they work better than gloves by keeping the warmth in where the skin is so thin over the vessels without hindering use of my hands and fingers. FWIW my 2 cents and good luck with your friend’s treatment! — from Shelagh http://continue.to/lupus

Hi Everyone, A friend recently came to me with questions regarding Raynaud’s. She was dxd with Disease (as opposed to phenomenon) but they’re still exploring other co-morbidities. Mine is relatively mild (and phenomenal – not in the good way, although it is kinda interesting) so I wasn’t able to provide much help. Does anyone know what treatments there are out there? and more importantly, this family is interested in a more alternative/supplemental/non-medication route. Thanks for any information or leads you can provide. Now…back to studying for finals. Booooo! ~julia

Hi Julia It depends on the doctor and the extent of the effects of Raynauds on the patient. Some doctor treat with calcium channel blockers. Again there are different drugs that are that kind. Verapamil is one I can think of right off my top this am. Instead of medications, then there are gloves, warm parafin baths for the extremety, things that just provide more circulation to the area. hope this helps a little cause I am still slow today janers
