Nicknames

Question:

Hi Blot- gosh i’m boring!  never had a nickname, so Fi it is – which my friends call me instead of Fiona.   Also i was too new to the internet to know how to change my username, so it’s stuck.  I’ve sort of stuck my head in the sand as regards anyone being able to decipher who i am when i post – maybe that’s because i’m in Scotland and naively think that no one i know will ever read my posts!  I might change the name in future – i’ve tried to change my address but it hasn’t worked yet…. Still learning,   Fi

Response:

spot on my face. So I was wondering, how did the rest of you (who use them) come up with your usernames?  always,  blot

For a long time I used the nickname Batding.  In my family, our father always had all sorts of crazy names for my sister and I, and one of those was Batding.  For us it was a term of endearment.. heh… (for those that haven’t figured it out, it’s just Dingbat reversed). Anyway, I was setting up a user account on a BBS for the first time, and when it asked for a nickname, I couldn’t think of anything, so I asked my friends if I would have the oppertunity to change the name later (I was doing this on a friend’s computer at the time) and they assured me that OH YA, no problem!  So I set my nickname to Batding.  To my dismay, it turned out that you couldn’t change your nickname.  I used it for awhile, intending to get a new account but eventually everyone knew me as batding, and it stuck. As for Aeon, it’s from that MTV anime-style cartoon called Aeon Flux about this crazy spy/action hero chick that wears a very revealing slinky leather-string outfit.  She’s crazy. Then as for my latest, orlan, it is the name of a performance artist. She has cosmetic surgeries done, and video-taped, making her doctors wear costumes, and all the while she reads poetry and stuff.  She is attempting to make a statement about beauty.  She has had the forehead of the Mona Lisa put onto her face, some other famous chin, her nose will be changed to that of an ancient King (who had a rather large eagle’s-beak type nose), and so on.  She’s had these horn-like implants put on either side of her forehead.  At first I was really repulsed by her work, but over time I’ve grown to like her a lot. orlan

Hey, Blot, great idea for a fun thread!  I’d WONDERED where you came up with "Blot," for example….  "Bunhead," of course, indicates that you’re involved in the dance world. Why Clix Pix?   I am an amateur photographer, and several years ago when I was buying a car and getting ready to change the registration information at the DMV I thought, "hey, wouldn’t it be fun to have vanity plates which represent some aspect of my life?"  I have always given my cars names and to date, I had used whatever the car’s name was on the vanity plate.  That meant, of course, whenever I got another car, I couldn’t possibly drive the new one with the old one’s name on it! <g I finally realized it might be easier in the long run to pick a name representing ME rather than the car…   Now next time I get another car I WON’T have to change the vanity plates! Anyway, at the time, I was much more involved in photography than I am at the moment, and the name popped into my mind, just the right number of letters (we were restricted to 7 at the time) and it was catchy…. Next, when I joined AOL and had to pick a screen name, it was a no-brainer (except that I had to add the numeral there).   By the time I subscribed to Erols as my ISP, it was a done deal.  Clix Pix it is… So if you’re on the road somewhere and you see a teal car with a redhead driving it and the license plates reading " Clix Pix," give a honk and a wave! –Connie — "Starving the flesh wastes the spirit." –Kandis Elliot

So I was wondering, how did the rest of you (who use  them) come up with your usernames? my username is starfisher on all my accounts but aol, which is sort-of a work account. (i stress "sort-of)  the name starfisher is a memory of my little boy who died when he was two.  he loved the stars, and now i look up in the sky and feel he is there.  nothing religious, more spiritual.  so, i consider myself a starfisher.                          -starfisher

Hi,    Ooops. I e-mailed my grandparents and forgot to change my username back to blot before I posted to the group. My grandparents call me Becky, and everyone else calls me blot. I got the nickname from the nurses at the hospital where I was born, becuase of the large coffee spot on my face. So I was wondering, how did the rest of you (who use them) come up with your usernames?   always,   blot — I’m not tense — just terribly, terribly alert. Hi, The "evolution of my username" was long.  I used to be a registered clown.  My clown name is "Meowkitty".  So, when I graduated with my master’s degree, I had to get an e-mail service.  I started with one, and wanted to use my clown name.  Unfortunately, it was taken, so I used "meowcat".  Then, I decided to get an ISP (yes, I know AOL ain’t a real ISP, but anyway…).  "Meowcat" was taken, so I decided to be weird and write it backwards.  I thought "Tacwoem" looked stupid.  Anyway, then I thought I should just reverse the word "Meow" only. Hence, "Woem".  Just so it didn’t look unfinished, I decided to put "cat" after it.  So, that’s how I came up with "Woemcat".  Yeah, weird.  However, a friend of mine thinks the screen name (which they’re called on AOL) is a real trip. It cracks her up. ——-Woemcat – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi,   Ooops. I e-mailed my grandparents and forgot to change my username back to blot before I posted to the group. I don’t use this on the boards or as a screen name or anything, but my nickname from my family is Annie Bird.  Everyone in my family calls me Bird.  They say when I was a baby, I had really chubby cheeks and really skinny legs.  Hehehe Annie

Kinda like my "Woemcat"!  LOL, "Batding"!  That’s hysterical!!!!!!  I love it! :0) Anyway, I was setting up a user account on a BBS for the first time, and when it asked for a nickname, I couldn’t think of anything, so I asked my friends if I would have the oppertunity to change the name later (I was doing this on a friend’s computer at the time) and they assured me that OH YA, no problem!  So I set my nickname to Batding.  To my dismay, it turned out that you couldn’t change your nickname.  I used it for awhile, intending to get a new account but eventually everyone knew me as batding, and it stuck.

Hi Fi! Okay, stupid humour here!  I think fi’s a good nickname.  It’s easy to remember. Anyway, haven’t made it over to Scotland.  The closest I’ve been, is northern England.  Would love to see more of the UK.  From what I’ve seen in person, and in photographs, it’s beautiful up there! —–Kristin – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi Blot- gosh i’m boring!  never had a nickname, so Fi it is – which my friends call me instead of Fiona. Sure is!  Rounded hills which are walkable because they’re not too big…enough snow to ski in winter and not cold to the extremes in some parts of the US.  Water’s too cold for swimming, though, at least on the east coast where i am. People friendly, too….. I sound like a walking tourist advert! Mind you, i like the extremes and contrasts of the US – have been to California, Arizona, Nevada, and Florida – and the wide open spaces boggle my mind! cheers,  Fi – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ——Kristin Hi Blot- gosh i’m boring!  never had a nickname, so Fi it is – which my friends call me instead of Fiona.   Also i was too new to the internet to know how to change my username, so it’s stuck.  I’ve sort of stuck my head in the sand as regards anyone being able to decipher who i am when i post – maybe that’s because i’m in Scotland and naively think that no one i know will ever read my posts!  I might change the name in future – i’ve tried to change my address but it hasn’t worked yet…. mine is a combination of all my alters (yes, i have did).  lucky for me most of them had names that started with L-E- or A-.

My husband nicknamed me "Tazia"…..as in the movie "Fantasia"  by Disney, because he said once that I make him feel like he is in a fantasy land or somethingto that effect.   :)

My real name is Kaloni, which is unusual, to say the least.  It is pronounced Kah-lonnie.  Anyways, I go by Kal here because it is easier to remember and spell.  Also, if anyone out there is from my area, which I doubt, but you never know, they would probably recognize my name right away. I hope non of you know me! :)  Kal

Response:

I’ve had quite a number of handles dating back to BBS days.  Decided not to resurrect any of them, "just in case." :)  Most were sexually oriented anyway and people not familiar never understood the significance.  Some people who understood found the names very offensive!  To those who couldn’t Anyway, when I started w/ my present ISP, I had to come up w/ a name and decided on   signman.  Why?  I’m hard of hearing and use signed English and ASL w/ some friends, so I thought "signman" would be a good name…especially since no one else on the ISP had it! So, signman it is! never guessed some people would think that I painted signs/billboards for a living…NOT this guy!

Response:

Ok, here is my history of nicknames..LOL I have 7 screen names on AOL…the first one I created, I was new to th eonline world, and wanted to get on as soon I could, so that name is Nikki007. Then I went on to create a name that was more "me"..and came up with "NikkisCats"…because I have 3 cats This screen name, which I use as my "base" name, is because I have lupus, an autoimmune disease. I have found that with this name, its been easier to educate people on this disease, because they will ask "Lupus, whats that?" or they will tell me "SOmeone I know has Lupus…what is it?",..just the other day I was playing a game on AOL and someone asked me. I also have a screen name for the newsletter I do, "NikkisNewsletter", a screen name "ImACatLover" (Because I am) and the name "CallMeNikki" (self explanatory). My real name is Nicole, and I use Nikki or even Nik at times. My dad though used to call me "Gracie" because I used to fall down alot as a kid (see the sarcasm? LOL) and some people call me that to this day. Nikki "… lost in the darkness of my own circumstance, criticizing echoes leaving me awake in the night… the barrier and blockades that keep me safe and in control while I pretend that I am okay… "

Actually, when I think of ’speck’ I think of my great-grandmother’s wedding ring, which is something very special to me. (She died a few years ago and left it to me.) The diamond on the ring is very small but brilliant. She called it her ’speck’. Great-grandad was a welder and it was all he could afford, but it was very special.    So ’specks’ can be good things! I named my car (only one so far!) He’s ‘Chugs’. Actually, the people who owned him first called him ‘Charlie’. But I changed the name becuase, like the ‘Little Engine Who Could’, he just keeps ghuigging along!    always,    blot P.S. By the way, the coffee spot on my face had long since faded. I suppose the name still applies for my freckles, though. — I’m not tense — just terribly, terribly alert. Spamstop address: ‘zianet’ tastes better then ’spam’

Response:

Sorry to be depressing, but I picked "speck" because I sometimes feel like just a little nothing, and other times, I wish I could just be really tiny and go unnoticed.  Also, sometimes I feel like I must be really annoying, like having a speck in your eye! I feel so boring!  Maybe I should come up with a fun name, too… We haven’t heard from Ears, yet, I’m curious as to where that name comes from! jodie * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!
