Question:
Merry Christmas everyone, My mom was taken by ambulance to the hospital early this morning. She is having heart trouble now, in addition to everything else. She will remain in the hospital over the holidays, but we view this as a blessing. She is at UPMC medical center, where she has never been before, and the docs are all over her already. My PCP finally came through. I will soon be seen at Hopkins by a Dr. Charles Yeo. His assistant is going to get in touch with me on the 26th. God Bless, Wes
Response:
Hi Wes, That sounds like a bad news/good news thing. I am sorry Mom is having problems again, but glad she is getting good care. Also glad there is some action for you. Enjoy your Christmas. Are you still eating tummy churning foods? Seasons Greetings to you, Kip and the children. BJ "Wes Johnston" <wesle…@msn.com> wrote in message

Response:
Wes, So sorry that your Mom is having more problems but glad to hear that she is getting good treatment. Maybe her being in the hospital will also give you some time to get better. The stress doesn’t help you either. Keep us all posted on your next appointment and how you are getting along. We all worry about you. Merry Christmas and wishes for the best for you and your family for the New Year. Hugs, Sherry

All my best to your Mom, you and family. Dr. Yeo seems to have access to lots of other doctors http://www.med.jhu.edu/cme/events/gastroliver01.html Also found this http://www.med.jhu.edu/deptmed/Internist/oct97/immune.html Other advantages of investigating autoimmune disease at Hopkins, says Rosen, include a large patient base and a lot of accumulated expertise. The Hopkins Lupus Cohort, an epidemiologic study that began in 1987, for example, covers one of the largest lupus groups in the world. <snip> That’s encouraging ! and these http://www.med.jhu.edu/deptmed/mrd/rheum.html http://www.med.jhu.edu/deptmed/mrd/nephrology.html Hopefully Dr. Yeo will consult with experts from these other areas. If not, maybe print these and take them with you..and you can "namedrop".
Hope the call on the 26th will bring good news for you. Best, J

Hello, Boy, I wish I had better news. We all were called to the hospital yesterday morning. The doctor would not tell my mom the news until we were there. She is paralyzed from the compressed disk down. Surgery is not an option. She is on massive doses of prednisone for the next week in the hopes of bringing down swelling, and bringing back some movement and bowel and urine functions. If not succesful, they will perform the necessary surgery to make everything flow through a tube in her abdomen. Wes, so sorry about your mom. I wish there were magic words to comfort you, but just remembering I am thinking of you and her will have to do for now. It is a terrible feeling to see your mom or any family member have to go through that. Paralysis is not a nice thing. My mom was paralysed on her one side but thank God the rt leg came back. So remember there is hope that with those doses of pred, this may come back..At least there is always hope. Hope to start the new year. Man Wes, you are one true solder…so much for one person to handle at one time. Hugs to you janers
Response:
Dear Wes, I don’t know what to say except that I am so sorry to hear that. I do hope that the pred will work for her. It must be so stressful, particularly when you are so ill. I can tell that you are a loving son. Don’t forget to take care of you too. Hugs, BJ "Wes Johnston" <wesle…@msn.com> wrote in message

Oh Wes……. I was sorry to read your post about your Mother. I am so sorry that this is the diagnosis. We will just pray that the prednisone will do its job, and be a big help to her condition. Bless her heart, she has been through a lot in such a short while. But it is a good thing that she is in the hospital. There she can receive the care she needs……care that you could not give to her while she was at home. That is a blessing… How is your Father doing? (You havn’t mentioned him in a while.) And what wonderful news that you will be seen by a good doctor at Johns Hopkins. barbtoo
Response:
Hi Barbtoo! Dad is doing very well. He is doing therapy for his shoulder, and it is improving. He is getting a rest with mom away. She will be in the rehab center of the same hospital for at least the next three weeks.
