Question:
Wow, what a terrible reaction to Bextra! They put me on Bextra and I didn’t have any really major reactions like that, but it did cause me some gastrointestinal problems. I complained about it, and doc said it would go away in a couple days, which it didn’t. I ended up coming off it and the GI problems went away almost completely. It really didn’t seem to do much for my inflammation and certainly not for the pain either, so it didn’t seem worthwhile to me to continue taking it. I have 4 children between the ages of 3 and 9. It sounds to me like you are taking a good approach to all that is going on in your life. It’s strange how children help us do that. At the same time, I would encourage you not to "stuff" your feelings about everything to the point that you explode or make yourself ill. It was just a couple days ago that I finally let loose of some of the anger and frustration I was feeling (late at night when my hubby looked at me and said, "Ya know, people cry sometimes and that’s okay!") and it has been better for my kids and for me. I’m still exhausted, still in pain, and still irritated at the situation, but I’m not on the verge of a nervous breakdown! *laugh* My thoughts are with you. Hi Steph! I’ve been on Mobic for only 1 1/2 weeks, so far a little improvment,& no nasty side effects. But I’m also on Pred again so it could mask the Mobic right now. I’m keeping my fingers crossed (Oh if I could really do that!!!)and hoping for the best!! Good luck to you with it,let me know how you feel! oh oh ! We have someone here with a very good memory <g> did ya notice how quiet I was about the query about Mobic? I took it like my doc said 15 mg daily for 2 weeks and a bit beyond. It was upsetting my gastro and not doing much for my pain, so I quit it. In fact, the last few days I was in such pain I started taking 1/4 percocets, then the weather broke to warm and some of the pain was more bearable, so I’m continuing with the 1/4 percocet and resting in between jobs that make my pains worse. However, when my hands or other parts get severely inflamed, I’ve reserved the right to go back on it, as required. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it LOL Thanks for remembering me, Maggie Huggers back to you, luv J

Welcome Joanne! This is a great bunch of people, and I know you will find comfort and tons of info here. It’s usually a bit slow on the weekends, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t get replies right away. Hang tight, and I know the welcoming commmitee will be around shortly. :) -Sharon

Hi Joanne! That’s definitely a scary reaction! I’m sure glad you don’t see THAT rheumy anymore. Seems you have enough to deal with now. I’d have stuffed a Bextra in HIS mouth, I think! I have a lady & man rheumy. I go to a University hospital. I adore them both, but the mister doc seems to listen to my side effect concerns better. While the missus just writes prescriptions FOR said side effects. I still love ‘em with their faults though. : ) Yes, Daypro is an NSAID. I’ve tried others during flares as well as one decent remission & nothing else works for me. You may be senstive to Ibuprofen & like meds. I am, but for some reason the Daypro doesn’t hurt me even though it’s an Ibuprofen-type pill. The vioxx was awesome at first! I had never had a med that worked so fast, but within 5 days or so, I was nearly unable to walk & had to reach for the prednisone. I get those feelings too. I think we all do. We think: "Geez, if I feel like this now, what am I gonna feel like in a year or even 10!?" I try to keep in mind that they could come up with a cure soon. Course, then I’m stressed cause of the possible COST of the cure. : ) Then there’s remission. Oh, and being hit by a falling airplane tire–at least I’m still alive & have the pain to prove it. : ) On the serious side though, those feelings are normal & they have often made me cry into my pillow. I think your being here on the group was the best thing you could’ve done for those feelings. You’ll see some who have had this disease for decades, some will go into remission & plenty more will be having the same feelings as yourself. And the fact that they’re living with the disease makes it so much easier to be understood. Seems like all I ever get from other "healthy" people in my life is a head nod–I can actually hear a rattle if I have my hearing aid in. Just keep looking up, sweetie! Hugs 4 U, Maggie

Hi Joanne. Welcome to the group……….sorry to hear it took 4 years to get a definitive answer to what is ailing you. Seems to be the running theme among folks here that they knew something was off-kilter for years before receiving a definitive diagnosis. I know that in my cousin’s experience, she was even accused of being a hypochondriac drama queen by one doctor!! Sure would have like to see the look on that doc’s face when Barney was in the hospital with dx of lupus and suffering recurrent abscesses of the bowel. Small ones in the home make your position that much more challenging and frustrating. Please don’t hesitate to post even if it just to say that the pain is so bad, and the kids are being so "wild" that you think you will lose your mind. We all know how terrible it is to feel so bad that it seems almost impossible to tolerate even the smallest drive-mother-crazy behavior. Glad to see you found this wonderful group of folks, and look forward to seeing more posts from you. Marie
