Hello from an oldie

Question:

Hi group ,  I use to post here often but changed severs and unfortunately could figure out how to get back to this news group . I’m MCTD with scleroderma/lupus and RA . Glad to be back and would also like to offer up a web site that I have been helping out with  . http://www.rheumaticsolutions.org I don’t know if you remember I am on antibiotic therapy for my disease and doing very well with it . This site pertains to that topic if you are interested please feel free to sing up its a free site and sells nothing just offers a message board and chats form others using this protocol .  Its a warm and friendly group so take a peek .   I feel like it is my birthday today LOL < big grin> I’m so happy to be back on all my newsgroups . I missed them so :)  Gee hope all my old buddies here are doing well .. Anyone that remembers me I would love to hear from you with an update on how your doing . Warmest hugs,  socjog

Hi, socjog!  So glad to hear you’re doing well!  I tried the antibiotic therapy under direction from Dr Mayes for more than a year and all I got was clear skin (which wasn’t so bad!)  Right now I’m not doing any disease modifying drugs (like Pred. or MTX) or anti-inflammatories (including minocycline) because I’m in the bovine collagen study.  It’s an interesting theory and I’d read a book about the attempts to use it on MS http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0738201820/ihavescleroder/103-… long before they decided to try it on RA and SD.  Talk about a non-toxic substance – it’s not even a drug, just purified cow collagen.  The company that tried to get it through the FDA process as a drug is now trying to pass it through as a "nutraceutical" since it showed some usefulness on some MS patients (though not enough to satisfy the FDA.) I hope some good info comes out of this study for SDers. Are there any new studies underway for minocycline? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -socjog wrote: > Hi group , >  I use to post here often but changed severs and unfortunately could figure > out how to get back to this news group . Hi Amy ,  So good to hear from you . Interesting info I have read a little about this and the current clinical trial . I have a friend doing also and she thinks she is on the real thing and no side effects and it really is helping calm down her RA .  Is there any info  as to whether this can pass that " mad cow disease " being it is bovine ??  The site you shared had several books but I couldn’t figure out which one you are referring to can you give me the title . Id  love to read up on it :)  . I’m sorry you didn’t do well on minocycline . We often here this from those on minocycline as it is NOT timed released . Apparently we do better on the timed released version . I my dear friend who has diffuse SD and started this treatment shortly after I had totally reduction in skin score and is halted with minocin only . Wish this could have been your results .  I’m now on doxycycline timed released its new called dorycn (sp) or something like that :)   and that is moving things forward again . I’m not in remission but darn close and doing good . . There was an SD study but I never got the final results from it this study was a multicenter 200 patient study Il see if I can track down where they are at for you .  Gee Amy I wish you only the best results with this new treatment . Are you still running ??? I am and Im actually getting my better times now . Im running the same times I ran when I was 40 im 46 so I went backwards which is really exciting to improve at this . Now that I found the newsgroups again Ill pop in more often . I couldn’t figure it out with my new server. Oh so sad to be so techno stupid  LOL !!!    Warm hugs,  socjog "Amelia Yaussy" <ayau…@forcemail.com> wrote in message

socjog – I know of no risk of mad cow disease from bovine collagen studies.  Is mad cow disease even in the US? Not running anymore (see my reply to Eleanor about muscle weakness) but still trying to stay active.  I got up to 12+ mile runs in Sept. of 1997 and just went down from there.  Glad to hear it’s going well for you! The book is "Human Trials: Scientists, Investors, and Patients in the Quest for a Cure" by Susan Quinn.  It’s a good read even if you’re not a patient just because it’s so exciting, but for us, it’s a really significant look into clinical trials.
