<<Anyone out there know anything about dapsone used to treat lupus.  Dr mentioned this and metx but she wasn’t sure which one to use for me.  Any info on dapsone will be needed the most.>> Dapsone is an anti-infective medication which is was originally used to treat leprosy (Hansen’s disease). Currently it’s also used to treat some other skin diseases such as dermatitis herpetiformis and various forms of pemphigus and pemphigoid (autoimmune blistering skin diseases which can on occasion occur in conjunction with lupus or RA).  I was unaware though that doctors were trying Dapsone for lupus.  It’s not a chemotherapy drug like Methotrexate (a true chemotherapy drug), but it is a powerful drug nonetheless.   A significant point about Dapsone about which you should know is that it’s contraindicated in people with allergies to sulfa drugs.  That would rule it out in many people with lupus.   Like Mtx, it can upset your stomach and cause vomiting.  I believe the dosing is more frequent than Mtx too.   It can also make you MORE sensitive to sunlight.   For more information, you might try www.rxlist.com   Just type the name of the medication in the SEARCH box and hit ENTER.  You can also get information from your pharmacist.  They keep drug inserts on hand. These days they don’t give them out unless you ask for them.   Sandra

Absolutely true.  I read this too.  I don’t know of anyone trying it though. I’d sure to interested to hear from anyone who has or is considering it since my son is likely to be put on Dapsone very soon.
