Ring Lupus UK on 01708 731 251 and ask them to send him/her the Doctor’s Guide. Also ask for a local contact, if you want someone to chat to. >and I am quite apprehensive as to what to expect can anyone help, >wulfii

I live in Cheltenham, so its not quite as far and I go to the Lupus Clinic at St Thomas’ too. A lot of people travel a long way to this clinic, I believe some people even go there from abroad! I can reassure you though that you will get the best care there is available. They really know their stuff and they are kind and friendly too. The only down side is that because they are so good there is a long wait between appointments. I was there last week and took the next available appointment, which is next April. That should not be too much of a problem if your local doctors cooperate well. For example my methotrexate treament is monitored locally and when there was a problem with my liver enzyme levels my local consultant got on the phone to the lupus clinic for guidance and it was sorted out. If you want to talk some more you are welcome to email me. Regards, Martin "Jude" <j…@beesgate.fsnet.co.uk> wrote in message

I don’t suppose I really qualify to answer this. but I always find some way to get in on a discussion.
I know that you will be going to one of the best health care facilities known for lupus treatment. I would recommend checking out their website and contacting Ros. I imagine she’d be willing to tell you a little more about St. Thomas. http://www.infotech.demon.co.uk/lupus.html Best wishes and yes, people from abroad go to St. Thomas as it is one of the best resources for Antiphospholipid Syndrome as well (an autoimmune problem often associated with other autoimmune disease). *********************************** KCat – I am not a medical professional. Unfortunately, anti-dsDNA is highly specific for lupus (99% specificity). It almost never occurs with anything else. If you need to educate your doctor on this, then I suggest getting Dr. Wallace’s THE LUPUS BOOK. You could also refer him to the Lupus Foundation website. Lupus Foundation of America (Lots of current information and support groups.) http://internet-plaza.net/lupus/ North East Lupus Group Homepage (Andy Taylor’s Page) (One of the best lupus websites around.) http://www.kitzbuhel.demon.co.uk/lupus/index.htm Lupus Around the World (ONE OF MY FAVORITES! Great search function, Ask a Doc, and support groups.) http://www.mtio.com/lupus Sandra
